Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

I think this is actually a bug in the original menu system (not sure about the new one) that only seems to trigger on multi-slot boards when you select the game. Same thing happens with mine.

Neogeo diag bios crosshatch testing / custom prog board

M1 indicates that z80 tests were run, same as the original diag bios. S1 (Sn) is indicating a slot switch happened and which slot was switched to. This is mainly useful when testing multi-slot boards where you have a diag cart in each slot. You get confirmation about which slot was tested...

    [ help ]Cps1 graphic problem

This could be causing the issue. Check the speed of the eproms on the lower right of the B board. I ran into this same type of issue with a couple captain commando boards a few weeks ago. The issue was fixed by either switching to 10Mhz A board or replacing the 175ns (original) eproms with...

yes open it with quartus 13.x, then do the "Assignments -> Device... -> Device and Pin Options..., then check the Serial Vector Format File (.svf) option. Recompile and the .svf file should show up in output_files/ directory."

Sound problem in MVS Board 1 slot

Those sounds are coming from the V roms on the PROG board. I would check the traces between the ADPCM* pins on the YM2610 and the PROG board's SD* pins. https://wiki.neogeodev.org/index.php?title=YM2610 https://wiki.neogeodev.org/index.php?title=MVS_cartridge_pinout

AES failing VRAM DATA test on Neo Diagnostic BIOS

Since the address (0x8201) isn't at the start of the 2k region (0x8000) I think its more likely the lower 2k ram chip is just bad. If it were a bad trace it should have triggered at the 0x8000 address like your original error. However I would still do the continuity check first just to rule it...

AES failing VRAM DATA test on Neo Diagnostic BIOS

I would hold A+B+C+D down when you boot to bypass automatic checks. Then manually pick testing 32K vram (2k vram test runs before 32k in automatic testing). If you get the same bit error on 32k vram test it would be an indication that data line is bad between the CPU and the LSPC, which is...

Would you love assemble your new NeoGeo AES motherboard ?

Yes The BOM lists these, which are very expensive. https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/587-395-100-524-204 I wasn't paying attention and got them when I submitted the entire BOM to mouser. But they are the right size/height. I dont think these are too high. They are 15.70mm tall, while...

Would you love assemble your new NeoGeo AES motherboard ?

heh, thanks. Troubleshooting can be difficult when you are pulling so many custom chips from likely non-working board. When I did my first power on I wasn't getting a sync signal and spent a far amount of time hunting down the issue. I eventually found a couple loose pins on the NEO-B1 and a...

Would you love assemble your new NeoGeo AES motherboard ?

I would guess I sent 10+ hours on building/testing it. If you or anyone else decides to give it a go, I would advise you fully populate and test the power section before adding any other components. If the power section isn't right you could fry anything only wanting 5V.

Would you love assemble your new NeoGeo AES motherboard ?

Got my color issue resolved. I accidentally install C66 based on the silk screen description (1nf), but it shouldn't have been populated. It appears having this cap installed made all the colors darker giving the impression some of the color bits were missing.

Would you love assemble your new NeoGeo AES motherboard ?

I was able to get one of these mostly built. Its missing the power switch (dont have one and is hardwired for now) and memory card slot (will do later). It plays games ok and has sound, but something is off with the colors. I need to audit all the resister in the top left to make sure I...

Would you love assemble your new NeoGeo AES motherboard ?

You are better off getting parts board as you will want more then just the custom chips. I think MV1F/MV1FS/MV1FT are likely the best ones to get. They pretty much have everything other then NEO-G0 for custom chips, plus you get correct package for 68k, CR401s, the weird volume slider...
