Chihiro: Frustrating Issue - Easy Repair

The xbox scart cable works but you need to extract the composite sync from the green video signal. Some monitors accept a composite sync on their vga input, others don't. It's a hit or miss situation.

Those of you with 512MB and 1GB DIMM boards...

The jumpers must be set correctly for the amount of memory installed. If you have 2 256MB sdram's, they should be set to 512. It should work with one 512MB stick and with 2 256MB sticks. I have no idea if you only use one stick of sdram, if you can plug it in any of the 2 available slots or...

Replaced DIMM batteries but still not saving state after netboot

He seems to have over 8 Volt coming out of the battery pack. It's scary if they would be connected without a bms board. If the system relies on the BMS to stop charging the batteries when they are full, they might overcharge without such a board. There is also the issue that they shouldn't be...

Replaced DIMM batteries but still not saving state after netboot

If you hold your dimm with the battery right under, you should find capacitor CT8 on the right side of your sdram modules. I measure 3V on that capacitor when the dimm is powered by the battery. Maybe you could do that check on your dimm as well If you don't have that voltage, your sdram isn't...

DARKSOFT How to convert a Xbox PCB to repair Chihiro

That's normal. The scart cable has all id bits tied to gnd, so the chihiro bios sees it as vga. It will output the 3 color signals on the scart RGB wires with sync on green. I doubt many tv's will accept a 640 x 480 x 60Hz video signal. The avip cable passes the video signals to the base...

Chihiro - Failure when entering test menu...

it's possible that part of dimm firmware became corupt. If it's a type 3, you could try a dimm firmware update. (to the compact flash compatible version for instance) this should fix possible corruptions if it's a type 1, this won't work. if you press test before the game started, does it...

DARKSOFT How to convert a Xbox PCB to repair Chihiro

chihiro bios doesn't boot without dimm board. The dimm board contains a 2MB flash chip that contains the dashboard. Without it, you get no video output. You can compare it with the xbox dashboard code. There is also an issue with the AVIP detection. The chihiro has all the id bit's tied to gnd...

Chihiro Type 3 CF Converted - Replacing Main Board?

HOTD3 is using the base board as well for it's game specific settings and high scores. OR2SP uses the dimm board memory for it's high scores and game specific settings. If you have the dimm board lithium battery and it's working, it will start faster as it won't load the game from compact...

House of the Dead III Repair Thread

Be carefull with the guns. The plastic shells are very brittle and the copper busses that accept the screws like to come lose. It's very important to use the correct length of screw. When a screw is 2 long it pushes the copper bus out of the plastic.

    Greeen screen with my Chihro

Just solder a wire between pin's 8 and 9 of that dipswitch. If it fixes your issue you know the dipswitch is bad.

Chihiro Type 3 CF Converted - Replacing Main Board?

The region is stored in an eeprom of the base board (that's the upper board) in the bottom case (not the main board). The firmware that was upgraded for compact flash is in the upper unit.

House of the Dead III Repair Thread

Check the case fan and the small fan on the gpu heatsink. If one or both have been replaced or are not rotating you likely have an overheated gpu issue. If you remove the top case (netdimm) you should be able to see both fans. You can try to powerup the system without that top case. Also check...

    OpenJVS - JVS Emulator

You can buy a wireless dongle to connect an xbox360 steering wheel to a pc (and likely raspberry pi as well.) Force feedback doesn't work with it when used that way.

Chihiro convert to 15khz output sync problem

if the problem you are having with the quality is the same as mine, it should show up very clear when you go in the test menu to the clock setting menu. You can improve that issue with a voltage regulator. The base board video circuits are getting their 5V supply trough the avip cable. You can...

Chihiro convert to 15khz output sync problem

That's a difficult question. The type 3 needs segaboot.xbe to run as it uploads the dimm firmware.asic file. The bios isn't seeing the dimm game area untill that firmware is running. segaboot.xbe only seems to run if the avip is seen as scart rgb. It would suprise me if the game would switch...

Chihiro convert to 15khz output sync problem

lm1881 indeed only outputs composite sync (on the vga hsync pin) and vsync (unconnected on the chihiro base board) my tests with the LMH1980 were not much more succesfull. I used a scart rgb cable and it wasn't having separate shielded color wires, so there was a lot of noise and crosstalk...

Chihiro convert to 15khz output sync problem

If you look on the baseboard you will notice that there is already an lm1881 to extract the composite sync from the green color signal. So if you think a vsync would help your converter all you need to do is solder a wire from that lm1881 vsync output pin to the vsync pin of the vga connector. I...

    Chihiro HDMI kit, possibly???

The baseboard takes the xbox vga rgb signals and extracts the composite sync from the green video signal. It also converts that vga signal to a component signal that outputs on the middle unused connector. (seems to be a japanese standard for component.) The only baseboard circuits that are...

    Back to Ghost Squad (project)

As you can read 2 topics up, the blue wire goes to a ntc that measures the temperature of the lithium batteries. The other end of that ntc is connected to gnd. If you don't have one, I can read it's room temperature resistance and lower temperature resistance. It's a pretty standard component.
