    FS Candy cabs Canada

You might want to also ask on the "Ontario Arcade And Pinball Collectors And Beyond..." FB group. There's about 4K members there, many of them with extensive arcade collections and are located in the GTA/southern Ontario.

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

Interesting. When I examined the code dump that Unibios shows, there's nothing wrong with it. It's the original dump of the game. It happens when the menu transfers control to the game code. This looks like a timing issue that trips the multislot that doesn't happen on 1 slot. What's more...

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

What happens if you take the Unibios out and put in the original BIOS? Does it go away?

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

I believe the issue has to do with how SNK implemented multislot support. Every 4 slot owner knows that you can't just stick a game into any slot and hope it works. There's a certain order (game size?) else nothing works. I've had customers where the Vortex cart didn't work for them initially...

VGA video amplifier board for Arcade Monitor with sync filter

The old ArcadeVGA and later Calamity Atom modified firmware worked by having a list of supported resolutions loaded in firmware. With ArcadeVGA, MAME has per game ini settings where a windows tool compared what is the native game resolution vs what the video card supports, find the closest...

Thoughts on the BackBit Platinum cartridge?

The cart didn't even come out yet. Let's wait till it does to see how compatible it is. The other thing to be mindful of is price. The world is very volatile at the moment thanks to a lot of tariff talks in the world. By the time April comes around, I'm not sure if the $400/$500 price would...

Thoughts on the BackBit Platinum cartridge?

Or you can do what I do.. rent a storage unit with the hope that your kids would move out when they go to university and not come back. :) I have a complete NES collection which I haven't seen in >20 years, over 200 consoles (many CIB), dozens of retro PCs and much much more in that unit. Don't...

Thoughts on the BackBit Platinum cartridge?

For some arcade collectors, that's not a big deal. They don't care about game hacks, homebrew or ports. For some collectors, the last "official" release came out over 20 years ago. Than again, many of these guys I know have 0 interest in multicarts, Vortex carts or anything but the original ones. :)

Thoughts on the BackBit Platinum cartridge?

It does not. A YT video review specifically called this out. Unlike NeoSD that retains the game after power off, the backbit needs to be reprogrammed every time. Flash programming is slow. NeoSD uses flash. This device I assume uses SRAM to hold all the game data, which is faster than flash but...

MVS game console based on MV1C

A very popular upgrade for any MVS PCB is adding the free UNIBIOS 4. Given this is an MV1C, soldering is required to add the 40 pin DIP socket PCB adapter to allow customers to change to any BIOS they want. As a value add to your customers, may I suggest you do this for them and charge a bit...

Thoughts on the BackBit Platinum cartridge?

It's not out till April (assuming there are no delays) My $0.02 on it is, expect speed bumps. Anyone who did anything on Neo Geo knows how volatile the system is. Issues with multislot quirks, beat up PCBs that were neglected by coin ops in smoke filled arcades, issues with power supplies and...

Yellow screen after botched AES 3-6 Unibios mod

If someone can't socket a BIOS, what hope do they have moving over the bigger components like the QFPs and other SMD ICs? :)

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

Kuze has an older version of my Vortex cart. About a year ago, I did change the line-up. I added 2 game variations, removed 1, and punted 240p test suite to the end because it doesn't make sense to see it first every time. We also need to be realistic about getting the Pick N Mix to work with...

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

Baseline capacitance values is a guesstimate the developer made based on what he was able to measure on his setup. I would ignore it. If it's able to test, program and verify on the programmer, then you are done.

Holy Cow! DIY alternative to CPS3 UltraSIMMs

The OCR adapter is about the same price. Uploading CPS3-OSCR-Gerber.zip came back with less than $40 for 5 pieces. 4 layers, lead free, the better TG155 PCBs.

Holy Cow! DIY alternative to CPS3 UltraSIMMs

That seems expensive. What are you making? just 128MB-SIMM.ZIP? I've been using JLCPCB for years with great success. 5 pieces is only $33.

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

From the point of view of the CPU, it doesn't matter. All it cares about is the program data loaded into the correct address space when it executes. I looked at KoF2003 and 12MB is allocated on the cart for PROM data. The CP1 FPGA on the PRG cart PCB marshals all the address lines; the P ROMs...

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

Anyone who has the older V2 cart that uses the STILTs (like Vortex's own cart per pictures he posted) you can convert those to a Vortex All-in-1 cart. You don't need a V3 cart. The only added complexity is the STILTs. Here's what you need: 1. PCB adapter to support the F0095H0 (CROM1, CROM2...

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

I've had multiple customers ask me if the MVS Vortex cart can be used with an AES adapter (like Furrtek's excellent Fusion converter). Posting the answer here so I can forward customers to a single spot. :) TLTR; it depends. Try and and see. Long answer: - Furrtek does not support...

Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

100% !!! I have never used the garbage PCBs and pin headers that come with these carts. I always transfer them to new PCBs with through hole pins. Programming them after the transfer has the added bonus of verifying that C ROMs are soldered correctly. If you can program C ROM in new PCB, they...
