That is very nice. I also found out that the factory speakers themselves were also used in various consumer CRTs. They were also known for their poor quality in general as most owners likely resorted to buying external speakers. At some point, I may find some shielded speakers.
Going to extend this a bit. Is it possible the OP was using a s246c motherboard because those and 256 contain an additional 5.5v .1f supercapacitor (exact same as Naomi) that isn't present in s246b and earlier. Both Time Crisis 3 board assemblies use s246c motherboards.
If leakage is a concern...
Did you get this issue solved? I'm having the exact same problem with one board in a twin Time Crisis 3. Reflowing the battery socket didn't work either and I tested voltages at the socket solder points. Both boards read 3v.
Thank you
I plan on updating another Ghost Squad cab soon this time using this method (the last method I used was from an RL friend's RPI). I wonder if anyone updated type 3 Triforce or Chihiro systems to the hacked media board firmware using this? I'm pretty sure it involves editing the hacked firmware...
Decided to look more into it and found this thread: https://www.ukvac.com/forum/threads/testing-namco-system-246.57211/
This person attempted to run Time Crisis 3 without a JVS IO board and shows the same symptoms as both of us. This is the result of what happens if Time Crisis 3 boots and...
Did you ever get this issue solved? I'm having this problem too and may know the cause. It could be cold solder joints or a broken USB connector. I noticed this the same behavior if you boot Time Crisis 3 with the USB (JVS) cable unplugged and plan to replace the USB port soon.

After two years, me and an rl friend managed to get the Ghost Squad cab running on CF. I'm giving a +1 to cftools.
For the best results, I suggest extracting (and decrypting) the game binary from the mame chd dump of the GD-ROM. I've...
Have you fixed this? I'm (sort of) dealing with a DariusBurst EX: AC cab but with a dead hard drive. I did a lot of google searching and couldn't find anything on a hacked/unmarried image to burn this to an SSD.
Is there any hacked/unmarried drive image to restore dedicated cabs like this that...
With the game/cab having scratchy audio, I think it's safe to say the factory speakers are starting to show its age. Anyone find a good drop in replacement for these speakers yet?
Finally resolved.
Been weeks since I decided to take on that cab again fortunately with success in fixing the defective side. Ended up replacing the IDE cable (original one I noticed had an exposed wire so it's likely some of them were bent and cracked). I also reflowed the IDE connector to...
It's come to my attention that I forgot to consider the IDE cable or port would be at fault. What I will do next is replace the cable and reflow the port sometime in the future (but not this weekend because working on this worn me out).
Another friend of mine is having a similar load related...
Quite frankly, I did switch the dongles between the two and it didn't follow either. The fan is spinning well (since that fan itself isn't factory and has been replaced by me around a year ago). It's likely a board issue since I exhausted most other parts but the main board.
If someone were to...
One of the sides on a Time Crisis 4 twin I do periodic work on has developed some strange symptoms related to failure to load content from the hard disk. These symptoms being:
The main attract cutscene would freeze but the scrolling text up top would still scroll.
The ingame attract sequences...
Interesting. I myself was curious about this too. I thought the game used some strange encryption in the video roms at first until a redump confirmed otherwise.
@Porchy, you have any suggestions because your name was mentioned in that commit.
That...is not only not what I meant but the game would have failed to boot regardless if you swapped the right edge connectors (from the two viper boards). Swapping the right edge connectors meant you had the left pcb communicate with the I/O board and the right communicate with the gun board. I...
If you have tools to listen to the serial link, do so. I'm curious to know what happens if you plug the serial connector to the other gun board?
Also boards in the gun should not matter but because this is a complete unit, I'd keep them plugged in.
