Want to buy Gradius/Nemesis PCB Really Really Bad

Just for the record, that listing is a conversion board. The EPROMs have handwritten stickers on them rather then factory original stickers. So it was originally a Konami GT board. The auxiliary D connector is also present, which can also be used as an indicator of a conversion, although not...

Want to buy Gradius/Nemesis PCB Really Really Bad

I’ve got a spare Gradius/Nemesis PCB in my trade pile. Now mind you, it’s not for sale at this time. However, once I acquire the 2 or 3 remaining boards on my most wanted list that I need, then I would be more then happy to consider selling it. Either way, free bump here for you.

System16.com has always been one of my favorite internet sites and is one of the best resources for arcade PCB information. However, with that said, it does indeed have several errors and incorrect groupings/associations of some arcade games and the board sets which were utilized for them. Rock...

Do you mean the standard 3.58 MHz clock crystal that’s in the audio section? If so, admittedly, I believe that’s one of the few factory original major components on the board that I haven’t replaced yet. But could a sound clock go faulty in a way that would allow it to work with music and...

I may be wrong, but if memory serves me correct, I believe that the VLM5030 chip can be sourced relatively cheaply if need be. Because it was used by Konami as an enhancement chip on a few of their bigger Famicom cartridge game releases.

So here’s where I’m at with this. The VLM5030 is clearly present on the board, no problem there. And there is a chip on the board located between the sound section and the 6809 processor which is 24 pins and looks exactly like a Yamaha YM2151. However, as Konami often did, all of the writing was...

Yes, there are only 2 known rom sets for this game, Japan and World, and both of them have vocals. Also, all 8 of the fresh EPROMs that I burned for testing match the checksums of the originals perfectly. And lastly, at one point during my troubleshooting, I actually heard some voice samples...

So I want to say thanks to everyone here who helped me analyze, diagnose, and repair this board. And a very special thanks goes to Monstermug. Not just for sharing his knowledge and experience, but specifically for extending kindness to me through patience. I still have a few more things that I...

So I just replaced the LS245 at 15B. It was giving unreliable readings and it visually looked bad to me. The corrosion was far worse then the remaining original IC’s on the board. (and I also replaced the LS174 at 15A.) Before: After: And it finally came to life for me: Details coming soon!

Yes. This pin which originally gave no reading whatsoever and was extremely sensitive to the touch causing the on screen garbage to shift, is now reading HI with normal and pulsing with activity. The all high data lines for the main CPU and something else which I have forgotten. This has had...

This is the main unit I’m currently using. https://www.bkprecision.com/products/discontinued/864-universal-device-programmer.html As far as I know, these are the 3 RAM devices on this board: 6264 at position 16F 6264SL at position 14C 2128 at position 10C And I already replaced all 3 way...

I completely understand. It’s a very busy time of the year and there’s lots going on. And I’ll have to check out this weekend for a few days myself for family matters. One thing I would like to note here is that I did double check the rom contents of the program EPROMs and they still match...

Yes. I just checked this and I can confirm that it is toggling. Yes as well. I just confirmed the 6264SL ram at 14C is acting just as you describe above. All address lines are toggling, the ground pin is low and the the vcc pin is high. However, there is another 6264 ram at position E by the...

That’s quite a bit to unpack there. It will be awhile before I can respond to every point, but I promise that I will. I’ll start with the first here. “…1. LS32@17A: Probe pins 9 and 10 and where do connections come from? Also find out why the connection is weak. Is it the socket?…” The...

Ok. So pin 22 (G) of the M27c512 connects to pin 8 of a Fujitsu LS32 at 17A The “connection” is very weak. When I run a jumper wire it improves and affects the on screen garbage. And pin 25 (A8 of the M27c256 connects to pin 3 of the LS138 at 14A. (which we replaced earlier)

Here is the rom at position 16C. This eprom is only 256kb. And from what I can see, does nothing strange. One other thing to note. Is that during the proving of the 28c512 eprom, twice now I’ve been “scared” by the game suddenly talking. (Yes, as in typical Konami 80’s speech synthesis like...

Now here is the rom at position 15C. This eprom is 512kb in size. Pin 22 is most curious as the logic probe gives no readings whatsoever. But, it is extremely sensitive. Such as, every time I make contact with it and the probe, it flickers and changes the garbage displayed on screen. Also, in...

Well, now I’m unsure as to wether or not I’m probing it correctly then? When probing a CPU, I set the probe to CMOS and when probing a “TTL family IC” I set the probe to TTL/LS. However, the other setting of “NORMAL/PULSE” is where I am unsure as to how it should be set here? And with regards...

Yes, when I put the logic probe into pulse mode, I have pulsing both at the D pins on the 63c09e and at the pins on the Konami 007324.
