Soldering jamma connectors without hating everything about the world?

It's definitely a risk calculation you have to make for yourselves. Is it going to kill you? Not likely unless you're eating rolls of solder or old toys made in China, but lead ingestion risk through handling and use of lead-based solders is pretty well documented and can have long term effects...

Soldering jamma connectors without hating everything about the world?

Would strongly recommend not keeping any food or open beverages in a soldering work area, and especially not eating or drinking while working, but I'm paranoid about that shit.

    MiSTer FPGA

I usually just melt the insulation and clean my tip with a Hakko 599B (brass wire ball), otherwise I have an old wire wrap tool I bought years ago at Radio Shack similar to this https://www.amazon.com/JAMECO-BENCHPRO-30AWG-Wire-Wrap/dp/B00C9NWR1Q/ The bottom pops off and the shaft is hollow...

Vote: What style M92 Multi would you buy?

Also would prefer the fancy multi. Programming EPROMs or memory modules is a nuisance, requires users to buy additional hardware they may not already have, and in the case of EPROMs you could be stuck with faulty devices. It's increasingly difficult to source original, working EPROMs as well...

Let's (Respectfully) talk about the Rules™

See: All of pinball and your local arcade FS groups ftfy. If I never again see some nonsense from a dipshit with a monkey PFP, it'll be too soon.

Nanao MS8-29FSG, garbage picture, no more high pitched whine

That looks like an issue with horizontal sync, but given the gradual worsening of performance there's clearly more going on. Common problems with monitors are electrolytic capacitors and cold solder joints, and if the caps haven't been replaced and solder joints haven't been gone over, that's a...

    CPS-III issue & Panic Attack !

    1. Just continuity. 2. Yes. 3. You could try pressing gently on the pins on the SSU. To repair this will likely require some fine pitch solder work, so if you are not up to that task it would be best to find someone to diagnose and repair it.

    CPS-III issue & Panic Attack !

Yeah, your revision is newer. U1 on the bottom is where you should be looking. You could start checking with a multimeter; two of the input pins may connect to Pins 15 and 16 on the SSU, unless that also changed between revisions.

    CPS-III issue & Panic Attack !

Check on the bottom of the board, depending on the version you might have a little daughterboard (96682A-S) with an 74LS08 SOIC on it that's involved in sync generation. I've seen mobos where this board is soldered directly to the 4 pins of the crystal on the top side of the mobo, and over time...

[SOLD] SEGA BLAST CITY CANDY CAB

My apologies to the OP for derailing your thread, but I've seen this same misinformation perpetuated over and over, so I wanted to present information that isn't from a 12 year old thread with loads of conjecture. And yeah, I disliked opt2not's posts after the fact, I've gone ahead and removed...

sounds like you already sorted them, but digikey or mouser should have a wide variety of trim pots.

[SOLD] SEGA BLAST CITY CANDY CAB

The potting compound is from the horizontal linearity coil, so it should not affect anything with the flyback like shorted or overheated windings or arcing.

[SOLD] SEGA BLAST CITY CANDY CAB

The "black goop" is just potting compound, it's not conductive, and isn't necessarily an indication of failure or pending failure.
