Pincushion Distortion with Sony PVM Monitor

Alright, good news. I was able to get L509 out through desoldering. I reassembled the unit and tested it out. There's good news and bad news. Good news is that the image shrunk back down to normal as seen in picture 1, so I know it's Q503 (or hopefully not IC509) that is the problem. First bad...

Pincushion Distortion with Sony PVM Monitor

Ok, I see. So where can i find the transistors and diodes on the board? I assume these are not as easily replaceable? Edit: So you're saying that the capacitors in this list are the capacitors I've already bought from the kit assembled by Savon Pat on Ebay that I posted about a few weeks back...

Pincushion Distortion with Sony PVM Monitor

Ok great! Looking at the manual (and at my TV) I'm having trouble finding out which capacitors are of what type. Where can I go to buy replacements, and how can I tell which is which? And also, how much of this should I expect to replace by applying the shotgun method?

Pincushion Distortion with Sony PVM Monitor

Would it be too rash of an idea to just buy new replacements for all the capacitors listed that could be faulty (L509, Q503, Q501 etc) and replace them all in one go? I can't imagine these cost very much and I'm willing to pay for them if it means eliminating the tedious testing process of...

Pincushion Distortion with Sony PVM Monitor

Okay, I got as much as I could off and open to get to the A board, and just going off of looks I think it's very safe to say that L509 is the problem. Just look at it! I won't be able to test it until tomorrow at the soonest, but it's clearly all torn up and busted.

What's the issue with IC509? Is it especially difficult to change?

Pincushion Distortion with Sony PVM Monitor

I've gotten the multimeter in the mail, still waiting on the repair kit. I'm looking to open the CRT up and start testing to see which capacitors are dead. How do I do this? And also, when making the discharge tool, where is a "ground point" that I can attach the wire to?

Pincushion Distortion with Sony PVM Monitor

Well, I was going to just return it and buy a different one on Ebay, but now that you've shown your support I think I'll go ahead and just fix this one up. The information you've provided looks good. The first logistical problem is getting parts. There's a seller on Ebay who sells an entire...

Pincushion Distortion with Sony PVM Monitor

Sorry it's been a while since I had time to look at this. This morning I took the cover off so I could get a look at the inside, or as best as I could. To get a better glance at the motherboard, I would have to discharge the whole TV, but I don't think I have the proper equipment to do so yet. I...

Pincushion Distortion with Sony PVM Monitor

I've done this. I actually get a super clear image when the H Size setting under NOR 60 DEF is set to 40 or below. Above that it appears that the scanlines don't line up correctly. Underscan was on in the first two pictures I posted, but after turning it off and adjusting afterwards, the problem...

Pincushion Distortion with Sony PVM Monitor

I don't know of any service menu. I know there are two menus: The regular one, which you just press "Menu" to access, and the degauss menu, which you press "Menu" and then "Degauss" and "Select" together, to access. I've fiddled in both with no avail for this problem. Edit: It turns out the...

Pincushion Distortion with Sony PVM Monitor

Hello, I am having a problem with my Sony PVM 14M4U monitor. It is in pristine condition and works wonderfully, except for one problem where the image is displaying extremely wide, so far so that it is cut off by the ends of the screen. The attached pictures show this. I was able to adjust the...

    Looking to Consolize a CPS3

And here it is! It's working beautifully. It feels good to play, I know what cab players mean when they talk about that "cab feel" not being the same as emulators for online play. The only hiccup I had other than setting up the PSU was getting the buttons right- something was wrong with my kick...

Also, there is no -5v or +12v. In the picture as I've shown, there is only NC, V3, +V2, COM and +5V. Edit: Nevermind, I got it figured out! There was a label on the side. :P

Also, I notice in the guide you've sent me hatmoose, you say that for the cord that goes from the supergun to the PSU, there are Red, White, Yellow and Black cords. But for me, I have Red, White, Yellow, and Green. How should I proceed, then?

    Looking to Consolize a CPS3

Okay, thanks fellas. I'll have to enlist some help of a friend who's more experienced with electrical work than me, but I'm sure he'll be glad to do it. I found the CD-ROM power port, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel a little silly not instantly seeing where it went. My last question is...

    Looking to Consolize a CPS3

Hello again fellas. Great news. The board came in today and I was able to assemble everything without any damage. It's beautiful. However, I do have a few problems: How am I supposed to plug the MeanWell power supply into the wall? No cords came with the MeanWell power supply. How do I plug the...

    Looking to Consolize a CPS3

The AxunWorks Supergun was my first choice, but they seem to be out of stock. Perhaps in the future if they become available and I am not happy with my HAS supergun I will pick one up.

    Looking to Consolize a CPS3

Alright. Everything's been ordered, I'll start posting asking questions about assembly if I have any once all the parts are here, if not, I'll post the finished product when I'm done with it. Thank you all so much for your help, this project would not have been possible at all without all of...

    Looking to Consolize a CPS3

Have mercy on my wallet... This video converter has un-noticable amounts of lag, right? I've heard it talked up in the past but that's my primary concern. Either way it doesn't seem like I have much of an option. I don't believe that the HAS I got has the kick harness with it, the cord in the...
