*fixed* Chinese hack Forgotten Worlds conversion audio broken

Just as a final update; I went ahead and moved all the other components from the donor, caps, surface mount stuff (caps, resistors) and the amp. Everything is working well. Hopefully it lasts!

*fixed* Chinese hack Forgotten Worlds conversion audio broken

You can’t really be too sure; I have another a board that looks legit (amp) except all the caps are different, a couple are missing (not as many as this one) the z80 is a gold star and a couple of other things. Not 100% stock, different dips also. I could have been a repaired board, who knows?

No sound at all is a bit different than mine was, I just had crazy sounds on SF2 and digital only on FW. Yours may be amp related.

*fixed* Chinese hack Forgotten Worlds conversion audio broken

If you check the link above it tells you what are acceptable SRAM chips ( 2k x 8 - a 6116 SRAM IC can be used to replace it) My layman theory is that I should replace all the caps, including the missing ones as bad power delivery could have been the cause of the other chip failing. Given I...

*fixed* Chinese hack Forgotten Worlds conversion audio broken

So I swapped out the TMM2015-15 and we have success! The question I’m asking myself now: do I keep going and do everything else? The risk being perhaps breaking other things?

It's possible, but it was working just fine and just stopped one day.

*fixed* Chinese hack Forgotten Worlds conversion audio broken

So if anyone is interested, swapping the Z80 also did nothing. For giggles I swapped the RAM chips at 10J and 11H&J because these are also missing on the 1.5 A-boards, no change at all. At this point the only ICs left is the TMM2015 under the z80, the Oki M6295, and the 4 M5218s. I'll do...

Replaced the ym3012, no help. I’m going to try to swap the z80. Yes, I’m just parts swapping.

Help with World Warrior to Ghouls and Ghosts Conversion

A couple more things: The 4th boss "worm" is missing a lot of elements. Some segments and the background is missing. The worm appears "striped" with missing sections. Everything else is fine. I'm going to run the roms through romident in a sec. I suspect that one of the graphics roms may...

    A-board with Goldstar Z-80?

It’s not unprecedented, but I’ve seen a dash a-board with a goldstar branded z80. It doesn’t look as bad as some of the hacked together audio circuits that I’ve seen, but the z80 is odd. I found this blog that showed a long board with a goldstar, so who knows...

*fixed* Chinese hack Forgotten Worlds conversion audio broken

Small update: I also worked on replacing the two ram chips in between the YM2151 and the YM3012. No help. I went to remove the KA12 clone chip and broke a leg on the YM3012 :( I ordered a replacement YM3012, but in the mean time I needed a board to output video so I threw it into a cab...

MVS EL panel and memory card reader wiring instructions?

I can’t say for sure in your case, but I’ve seen the whine with burnt out panels on 3 different cabs. Fixed it each time. The panels are reasonably cheap at less than $50 and you keep it original.

MVS EL panel and memory card reader wiring instructions?

Not necessarily. In my experience “burnt out” EL panels will make the controller emit a high pitched whine. At this point any original EL panel will be burnt out. I’ve replaced several panels in several cabs because of this and every time replacing the panel fixed the whine and the new panel...

    MVS graphical issues horizontal lines

Sometimes bright/contrast issues can be related to the color guns being too high in one color. It can be very subtle. I had a cab where it was too dim if I got the background black, but if I went higher it was slightly reddish. slightly turned down the red cutoff and it was perfect.

    MVS graphical issues horizontal lines

May not be related, but your Brightness is too high. Checkout Mike's monitor channel, he covers how to adjust properly in most of his videos at the end. Your blacks should be completely black. I have some games where if the brightness is too high you can see black squares or other shapes in...
