I quickly grew tired of the cable swap/EDID stuff and just made a cable to avoid the issue altogether: The only thing you need is RGB, H/V sync and GND, which will all EDID/monitor detection schemes. You can accomplish the same by pulling pins out the connector of a pre-made cable.

I actually tried to make this 'caseable', but it was tricky because of the OLED and JST-VL connector, so didn't bother. Most of the stuff on the PCB is covered by the DE10, and the edges are riddled with connectors and buttons/switches so not sure if there would be much utility.

Depends on how long you want to make them, but in general I would never use smaller than 18AWG, unless you like voltge drop - use 2x18AWG for 5V, 3.3V and GND (important..).
