You don’t need to discharge if you are not disconnecting the chassis from the screen, as an electrical engineer for many years my advice is to take pics and write down, sketch every cable you disconnect. This will save you a head ache and make sure nothing goes PoP !

Looks like you need to increase the screen width, some game boards display narrower than others CPS3 springs to mind.
