    Any tips on where to start troubleshooting? (MVS MV2F) - garbled graphics /boot

    the error is typical for issues with the ZMC2, the traces are obviously affected and should be fixed, all of them, the dark spots are a give away, thats corrosion and its still going I wash these boards like dishes with a soft brush, cleanse with water, then IPA 99% to dry off, then in the oven...

    MVS MV1B/1C battery replacement

    I reckon the FM1808B are drop in replacements https://www.mouser.de/datasheet/2/196/Infineon_FM1808B_256_Kbit__32_K_8__Bytewide_F_RAM_-3361599.pdf the SRAM datasheet https://www.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/view/101650/SONY/CXK58256.html pinout is the same no?

    MVS MV1B/1C battery replacement

    One might consider FRAM versions for the SRAM used for the Backup RAM in MVS, if the contents are that important, I think 1808B will suit? The clock will be off but thats the only drawback I ca think off, FRAM is not that cheap but its a one time investment.

    Would you love assemble your new NeoGeo AES motherboard ?

    Hi :) I'm in Europe/Germany and looking for a PCB, willsconsolemodifications has it but in Red and HASL only. Tried to order with the link to PCBWay, 5 pieces, ca. USD 125,- with HASL, USD 158,- with ENIG, then the order didn't pass the check, support "fixed it" and now they want USD 213,-...

    MV1AX. Z80->68k comm issue (ack)

    you found the issue with a NEO-BUF replacement, great work :) have you checked the voltage on the +5V rail? especially with the new games below 4.75V and its expected to act up

    MV1AX. Z80->68k comm issue (ack)

    last thing I can think of the the slot PCB, it only has a single IC (U1) but tons of soldering points, traces and of corse the slot itself which is also susceptible to dirt/corrosion, but also the connectors to the PCB, same goes for them

    MV1AX. Z80->68k comm issue (ack)

    Try pressing in the ICs/board while the test is running, see if you find an area to press on that changes the outcome of the test

    MV1AX. Z80->68k comm issue (ack)

    Have you check all traces for the P-Bus? Bad connections can lead to this kind of error (floating datalines). here is a simple test for the Z80/68k comms using a logic probe: View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__qTYNFvl3I However that seems to work for you. The NEO-BUF are used to...

    Would you love assemble your new NeoGeo AES motherboard ?

    Mega Drive/Genesis first model are donors as well IIRC Its the RGB amp, possible to replace with a THS7473 and similar if you don't care about composite/RF. I got them from buyee.jp, they've send them all the way to europe here.. not cheap, not worth it IMO IIRC the PLL is optional...

    Neogeo MVS MV-1C YSA2 broken input

    @TSMD keep trying with the neo-geo forum account, sometimes it takes multiple attempts. Those HCT245 /244 are buffers, meaning they keep the signal stable (look up "fan out for ICs" for details). If you look at the IC pin out, the right side has the inputs (P1.. P2..), the direction of the...

    Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

    Well the AES version can be quite expensive, the MVS is a few hundred bucks, similar for other games that aren't on the 161-in-1. Personally I'm convinced that many go the consolized MVS route only to save money on the actual games, here in Europe one can get an JPN AES for 350 - 550 Euros...

    Reverse engineering 161 in 1 cartridge to change Rom games

    Awesome info and a very impressive project! So a Full Set won't be a thing due to limited space. Personally, I don't care about KoF at all, and they are (over-) present on the 161-in-1 modules. Some titles are currently not available to people without deep pockets or that got really lucky...

    MVS 4 slot (MV4F) board repair help

    Can you show more pictures? Are those glitches moving around the screen? Are all slots affected? You get graphic glitches in the crosshatch screen as well, without the top board? There is a few different 4 slots around, it might help to know which one this is.

    Would you love assemble your new NeoGeo AES motherboard ?

    lots of PCBs are rotten, not just MVS, but also AES there is something in either the solder mask that makes the traces corrode, or its because the PCBs weren't cleaned well enough after soldering there is an abundance of 2nd gen custom ASIC (as used by the AES3-5) available, no worries about...

    MVS 2 Slot Repair Help

    The LSPC2-A2 is harder to solder than the NEO-B1 as it has a finer pitch between the pins. I would not recommend to practice that on a MVS/AES tbh, there is a learning curve, things will break in the beginning. You could practise on MegaDrives/Genesis, the ASIC/VDP in there are quite similar to...
