    SYS2x6 technical details discussion

So as not to "pollute" other threads with the discussion, I think I'd open this thread to gather all technical discussion on how the SYS2x6 dongle is implemented, how it all works and possible improvements/alternatives. To start the discussion, I asked what are the differences between the...

    System 256 stickers and make-over

So, I decided to do a make-over on my System 256 metal case. Mine came is not only dirty/yellowed, but also has a couple of rust spots around. My intention is to sand the case, prime it and paint white, starting with the lid. So, the first step is getting the "MagicGate" label re-made and...

    Powering a System 256 with a PicoPSU

So, I had this metal Raspberry Pi 3 case kicking around for *years* (Geekworm X820): It's supposed to be used with a SATA adapter for the Raspberry Pi 3. But it was waaay too slow, so I never used it. I decided to try and put a Pico PSU inside it, along with a Pi 3 for the Multi Selector, and...

    [Repair Log] Sega NetDIMM

Got me another NetDIMM with the latest Naomi 1 I bought (see the other thread). Appears to be in good condition, no blown caps, no corrosion. Screws are "factory-tight", no fingerprints inside the metal plate. No missing/bent pins on the Omron connectors. Battery inside is completely discharged...

[Repair Log] Naomi 1, the easiest fix ever?

So, some packages arrived from Japan today: a Naomi 1 and another NetDIMM, to complement my saga (or torture?) of repairing a Naomi 2 earlier... Got this one pretty cheap in an auction, and it looks *really* clean, which is VERY unusual: As soon as I got it out of the box, I heard...

Cover plate + Reset switch + mode switch

Hi there, I designed a small 3D-printed cover plate for the Namco System 256 to accommodate a 246+/256 mode switch + reset switch at the front without drilling any new holes. Here's the result: The STL is available here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5800935 It fits right where the...

[Repair Log] Naomi 2, take 2

Okay, if you've followed my repair log, you know that it worked for a while, then stopped for good when one of the BGAs crapped out. Well, I bit the bullet and bought another one from a questionable source, "guaranteed tested", for a fair price. It arrived yesterday and indeed, after setting...

Supported Naomi 2 DRAM chip speeds?

I'm looking into finding replacement chips for IC106 and IC107. Both are marked Hyundai HY57V653220B TC-10 . I did find some for sale marked TC-6, which according to the datasheet, are rated 166Mhz instead of 100Mhz. Does anyone know if I can use these, or will I have problems?

[Repair Log] Naomi 2 won't boot

Hi all, I acquired a Naomi 2 at a japanese auction, and besides some heat marks and scratches on the plastic case, appears to have been untouched. Even the screws had that "factory torque" when I opened them. I inspected the motherboard on the microscope and found no corrosion at all. All...
