    System 16B Conversion Help

The issue must be with the CPU program ROMs A5 and A7. Have you tried another download of unencrypted A5 and A7? Some are for System-16A.

System 256 Very Low Audio Volume

Low volume is most likely caps on the audio amp circuitry. Sometimes the sound can improve after a system has been on a while as the caps warm up. A recap should sort it.

    Sega Mega Gun

Thanks for the info. That thread is what encouraged me to use a CPLD for button remapping due to the variation in button order. The edge connector is SB16 layout so no need to use adapters.

    Sega Mega Gun

It will be once I do some testing and adjustments. All my projects are open source 🙂 Gerbers and Bill of Materials will be available on my GitHub https://github.com/Taijigamer2

    Sega Mega Gun

Here is my offering into the world of arcade superguns. I recently picked up a Sega System 16 Golden Axe board as a repair project. While familiarising myself with the Sega System 16 I realised it used a different pinout to JAMMA. Even Sega advised users on how to connect an adapter board (why...

    Megadrive DB9 to DB15 conversion

Hi, that’s a very kind offer. I may have to take you up on that if I’m unable to make headway with this code. I was referring to the MD2NEO mod by @Frank_fjs. I was unaware of another Megadrive to DB15 adapter. I am hoping to make one using a CPLD as they are perfect for replicating Logic...

    Megadrive DB9 to DB15 conversion

Thank you for the link. I’ve read up on the process a little but there is not as much info on demultiplexing the signals. I only plan on doing a 3 button conversion for now. It’s for a Sega System 16 specific board and most games are only 3 button. As long as I have all the relevant signals...

    Megadrive DB9 to DB15 conversion

A question for those who have done controller conversion boards. I’m trying to design a board to convert a Megadrive controller signal to arcade Supergun DB15 standard as part of a Supergun project. Unfortunately the only Megadrive converter board I’m aware of doesn’t have published code. There...

Sega System 18 - Bare knuckle

Not officially. Like you said, kind of a pseudo bootleg (as there was no original arcade release). I think Bare knuckle was purely a Genesis/ Megadrive release.

Sega System 18 - Bare knuckle

Check this thread https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/fs:bare-knuckle-streets-of-rage-pcb.20831/ Looks like Streets of Rage was never officially released as an arcade board. These were custom boards most likely.

16B - line level audio noise

Don’t worry about the super cap. If your system is mostly working then it’s not a problem for now. The film caps are used for signal smoothing and setting the bias on the op amps. I can’t say why the designers specifically used film caps on the Sega System 16 but they are used for almost all...

16B - line level audio noise

Ok. So a recap hasn’t improved the output? Have you replaced the film capacitors or just the electrolytics? Do you have access to a scope? It might be worth looking at the op amps (LM324, TL084) and audio amp IC (MB3733). A scope would make it easier to check which is at fault though I would...

16B - line level audio noise

By ‘line level’ do you mean it’s been converted from amplified audio to line level audio by the MVS adapter? Do you have any issues with any other boards through this adapter?

    Any luck with this?

    Repair Log: Guwange

    1. Start with the SRAM chips, test A6 with them out of circuit. It’s a long shot but it might be as you said. 2. It’s unlikely you will be able to reconnect the internal wire under the die. Maybe as a last, kamikaze resort. 3. If A6 is floating and shared on the same system bus as the rest of...

Golden Axe: RoDA Jp version, encrypted?

Ah my mistake 😅 my brain was in S16/18 mode. What happens when the FD chip dies?

Golden Axe: RoDA Jp version, encrypted?

IIRC you will need a standard Motorola 68000 to use with the decrypted roms. The FD module will not work with them.

FM Towns; the hardware, the games, the arcade ports

Possibly. Though it’s already combined the RGB into digital chroma so it may be not much different than converting cvbs back to RGB. Your 2nd suggestion would be a better approach. Oh no. No more yahoo.jp 😭 I use Buyee which I think still gets to yahoo.jp and will allow you to proxy purchase...

    29F032 protection permanent ?

Nice work. So no option to manage Reset voltage level through the software 😬? I’m looking at getting an XGecu programmer. I’ll be mindful not to lock the chips if I use them.

    29F032 protection permanent ?

RESET pin needs to be held at 11.5-12.5V to temporarily remove protection. RESET is normally held at VDD (usually 5V). Check your programmer settings, there may be a setting in software that tells it to hold RESET pin to a specific level.
