    Capcom Q-Sound amp help?

Oh, woopsie. I missed that, sorry. :P By the way, thanks for your efforts, your work will greatly help understanding this kind of hardware better and help people out there repairing broken boards.

    Capcom Q-Sound amp help?

The QSound amplifier has been retro-engineered, there are just some caps and resistor values missing. https://twitter.com/WydD/status/1335312921228931072 https://gitlab.com/loic.petit/cps2-reverse/-/tree/master/CPB-001A https://petitl.fr/cps2/CPB-001A/ Hopefully this is finally going to put...

Official: CPS1 (CPS1.5) Multi by Darksoft/Apocalypse - Interest Check Thread

Thanks for the kind words :) Just to make it clear: I'm alive and well, other things got a bit sketchy and other priorities came up, that's all :D

Regrettably, I have to ask to be removed from the list.

    MiSTer FPGA

I feel this really needs a separate thread because the issue at hand is of utter importance since it sets people's expectations on a certain device. All the points made here, to me, are absolutely valid. On one hand, we should definitely try to document and reproduce old (failing) hardware by...

    MiSTer FPGA

Damn, I'm overwhelmed by the huge wave of common sense in the latest posts. What happened? Besides, FWIW, jotego is using a logic analyzer to study each board to replicate the exact behavior of the various custom chips which have not been decapped/documented yet. While it's not perfect down to...

    MiSTer FPGA

Because I'm sick and tired of people spreading misinformation which then end up spending money on something thinking that it will just give them the best experience possible without having any knowledge just because someone on the internet said "just buy this used PC for $100, put groovymame and...

    MiSTer FPGA

Then let me tell you that at that point a raspberry pi is a cheaper option and it's able to output native resolution and correct refresh rates just like GM and it runs everything up to PSX. The whole point it's never been what's cheaper in absolute terms (ie: money), but what's the best...

    MiSTer FPGA

That's the worst point possible you could've picked to make a GM > MiSTer comparison. It took me almost 1 year to fine tune everything on my GM PC and I was still tinkering after. I think I've spent way more time tinkering than playing on that machine, which is just plain wrong. Let's just say...

    MiSTer FPGA

I've built as well a dedicated emulation box (mainly GroovyMAME) and still have all the prices of the components I've bought: Intel G3258 (overclocked to 4.8Ghz) – 67,55€ AsRock H81M-G – 42,15€ AMD HD5450 (used) – 20€ Antec VP350P – 23,50€ 4GB RAM (used) – 24€ Small form factor case – 46€ Hard...

    MiSTer FPGA

Cool, now add a PSU, case, hard disk and RAM and let's see what's the price. Oh, and MiSTer is tiny, so unless you're willing to spend quite a bit for a dedicated small case you'll end up with a big and heavy thing. The irony of all this, is that I'm defending the PC setup while not...

    MiSTer FPGA

A custom PC build, exclusively made for emulation, where you actually use raw input with a video card capable of true analog out via VGA (you can get both RGBs and RGBHV from it) with a heavily customized windows installation with lots of the useless stuff removed, Windows XP (32-bit) or 2003...

Official: CPS1 (CPS1.5) Multi by Darksoft/Apocalypse - Interest Check Thread

I can't remember if this question was already asked, but how much does a game take to load? CPS1 games are rather small, it should be quite quick.

    Capcom Q-Sound amp help?

@wuemura according to your own researches, they *are* wrong (EDIT: to better clarify, "they" is referred to ValleyBell and superctr), because as you can clearly read in ValleyBell's information, the phase shifting is done *in software* and not on an outside board and, again, as stated in the...

    Capcom Q-Sound amp help?

for @wuemura and all other people how might be interested in the discussion that arose earlier: I've reached out to ValleyBell asking to shed some light (at least for me) on the QSound situation both regarding MAME and how it works and he has given me permission to copy-paste his reply here:

You can do that in windows as well through a batchfile and WinRAR (which works in command line mode as well). My batch-fu it's pretty weak as I mostly work in Unix environments, but if you look around you'll probably get all the pieces together to pull this off. Or ask on Stackoverflow.

Artemio measured how much current it drew and it was 0.665A https://twitter.com/Artemio/status/1191839819665686528?s=20 As said before, the components can work up to 16V DC IRC. But yeah, a common 12V DC should be enough bypassing the rectifier.

    Capcom Q-Sound amp help?

Fair enough. I know there's been lots of drama involving the MAME dev team and this is not the place to discuss this as I don't want to derail the thread (which has lots of meaningful and important information). They have their own way and let's just stop here. Some people don't like their way...

    Capcom Q-Sound amp help?

Dude, all that anger towards something so meaningless doesn't do you well, it's bad for your health. Take a deep breath. Chill. Now... QSound amps have been around forever (and people have possibly been frying them by feeding them 18VAC, but that's another story) and by now people would have...

    Capcom Q-Sound amp help?

And you're still failing at understanding the fundamental difference between a resistive load and a reactive one and how you can't just apply an R-C filter to obtain a phase shift when you have a resistive load. Since I'm talking to, as you stated yourself, an "hardware developer" (which means...
