Always having to 'reset' volume on startup - normal?

I picked up a 19XX cab, and to my surprise, it has a piggybacked DarkSoft board (PAL F, pin 7 jumped to J17). Did not come with an LCD monitor, ribbon cable, or button.

Upon initial startup, it didn't have any sound so was spending a couple hours pouring thru the forums; found instruction to hold 'VOL DOWN' upon startup to reset the sound, then volume up to desid loudness.

I'm finding that with each power cycle, however, it requires this reset each time. Is that normal - and is there a way to have the board deliver consistent always-on sound with each startup?

Also - can the separate DarkSoft board components be purchased separately from the entire kit?

Thanks for reading.

I’m pretty sure the audio issue is related to the supercapacitor on the pcb, I had that issue once and I think I had to change it out to fix it.

Edit:
Not sure why it’s turning my 8 into a face with sunglasses on.lol

I had this issue on three separate cps2 boards. Ordered supercaps to replace them and ended up not even needing to. Somehow they fixed themselves?

I figured they recharged after sitting dormant for so long and finally getting some juice? Strange…
