Are dip switch settings common between games?

I find myself with a Chinese multi game CPS1 board. Soft dip settings are lost when it powers off, so I’m wondering if I can enable free play via the hardware dip switches or if they do different things on different games.

The DIP switches do different things for different games. A good example is the DIP to pause the game on Strider that is used for other functions on other games. I generally leave them all off for the CPS-1 multi and just adjust according to game via manual if I am going to play that title for a while.

Only one I guess I'm really concerned with is free play, Which is C3 for Street Fighter 2 but C4 for Strider... so guess I'm boned.

Just change it when you’re changing games. Flicking a DIP switch isn’t a big deal really?

Would require pulling the cabinet away from the wall and opening the back. Cab' is setup with four different boards so far, everything else is operable from the front. Having to put in a token isn't the end of the world, I would just prefer free-play.

Edit: In addition, the system doesn't remember the last game I had it on when it loses power. It always reverts to a hack of Street Fighter Alpha. I can change it with a remote, but I would need to reset the hardware dip switches whenever I power off the cabinet.

In that case, there’s not much you can do then. Perhaps set the most common CPS-1 DIP for free play and then use tokens for the rest of the games. Or you could easily install a credit button for convenience.

Also, not familiar with the Chinese multi, but the aje_fr multi remembers the last game played and I’m sure the forthcoming Darksoft multi will too. Maybe someone else who owns this can chime in?

It's an interesting unit, not remembering the last game it was on is a PITA, but it has an IR remote for changing the current game which is easy enough. Since I have to open the coin slot panel to use the remote, I can just hit the credit button that's already there in my MVS-2-25 cabinet. I kind of picked it up on a whim, because I really wanted to play Cadillacs and Dinosaurs... I'm sure there are better systems out there, and even better ones coming from Darksoft. But the price was hard to pass up.

I believe that’s the multi @lydz made.

Just in case you are unaware, the hacked version of C&D on there (and on the aje_fr multi) doesn’t play with the right music or sounds as it’s originally a CPS-1.5 game which traditionally needs a Q-Sound board. That may change with the forthcoming CPS-1 Darksoft multi, we are yet to see :)

It does indeed look like the lydz multi, no idea if it is or not... and yeah I know about the modifications and issues with some of the games. Still fun!
