That is an early version PCB where they forgot a couple traces and had to fix a mistake. Later PCBs have these fixes built into them.

Make sure you replace it with a 3-wire fan. The yellow wire is tied into the audio circuit, so if there no rpm signal the Atomiswave sound stops working.

You can also use a 2-wire fan if you splice the yellow wire to the black ground wire. Did this on my Atomiswave and sound works as it should.

Good ol bodge boards and wires mmmm. Interesting though I didnt know the atomiswave had a bodge job. I wonder what it does hmmm.
