What is an audiophile PSX?
The 1000 series PSX's had RCA jacks for their audio out. Some articles way back claimed they were the best CD player you could buy under $500 or something, so they started being called "audiophile" PSX's.

Correct I probably should have mentioned the sound dac on this model is the best

Yes but the OD is the worst (doesn't really matter if you go the ODE route), I think I saw people swapping one from a 9001 model, of course you end up with a Frankestein machine but it's not really noticeable and is truly the best model you could assemble.
Also the 5001 has the same DAC than the 1001 with a better drive.

It seems the best "FAT" PS1 is the 7502 with better video hardware (integrated anti-aliasing & defog).
And it displays games from other regions in colour even with a composite cable.

The 1002 can be perfected by installing a PSone drive and replacing the PSU with one from a 5000 or 7000 series (the OG one overheats).
