I want to make a consolized CPS1. I can only buy the board on aliexpress, and there is an 80% chance they will send the 1.5 version with a manually added audio amplifier and capacitors. On the NEO GEO M1C, the built-in amplifier can be removed from the board and a non-amplified stereo signal can be taken from the board. It seems that on CPS1 you can also get a non-amplified stereo signal from CN5 - but does it work on 1.5?

The ali boards are heavily bodged.
They need a full recap and both audio chips replaced.
Also there's an incorrect mono amp on the board.
Easily $40-$50 of parts, and then they are identical to cps1.
For what its worth, I believe them to be boards that were nos, intended to be scrapped.

I am ready to replace all the capacitors on the 35-year-old device. Anyway, the only place I can get the board is from China. I don't need an amplified sound, I'll make a console - will I be able to get it with the CN5 if I remove the mono amplifier installed by the Chinese altogether?

Not sure. I've only restored a board. Never consolized.

Talk to @sheep_nova, he was able to get me a couple of original A boards with original audio sections. Alternatively you can find a dead A board and transplant the audio section, which is what I did for one of mine.

I’m looking for a CPS-1 motherboard without the audio section installed.

They were around a whiles back but seems like all were bodged up.

Anyone got one?!

Since no one could confirm the operability of the sound output without an amplifier on 1.5 boards, I did not take any chances and ordered a board with a guaranteed original audio amplifier for 20 bucks more.

Almost all the boards that you order on aliexpress will be 1.5 versions with a homemade audio amplifier. I think if you write to the seller, they may not solder the amplifier, it's even easier for them. I wonder where they got so much 1.5 and why they don't sell them assembled with qsound and the original game for 7 times more?
