Coin mech for supergun

Any ideas for adding a coin mech to a supergun setup? I'm thinking I could disconnect the Coin 1 wire from a JAMMA extension cable and connect that to a coin mech. Is there a standalone coin apparatus I can use with a coin mech to accept a coin and activate a switch or do those components only exist as part of a cabinet?
 
You could simply connect the coin wire and ground to a leaf/needle microswitch and have a mechanical coin mech trip that switch. Alternatively you could use an electronic coin mech which negates the use of the microswitch but usually needs a 12v line.
 
I’ve seen them for sale with the door/surrounds for various cabs, but nothing self standing.

It wouldn’t be too hard to rig something up using supplies from an electronics and hardware store.
 
I can't understand the point.

A coin mech takes a lot of place compared to the size of a supergun, so you better actually build at least a bartop with the coin mech on the side (if you put it under, it's already a cab).

If you just want to use your supergun as a JAMMA test rig, then just use a button.

Anyway, if standalone cases for coin mech exists, they are mostly in the QA chains (although, that wouldn't really make sense for that to make a dedicated enclosure) or homemade projects, so you will have to design your enclosure if you really go that path, but that means cutting some wood or a plastic case about the size, nothing more.

I could do without an enclosure. I'd happily settle for something self contained that won't fall over when placed on a flat surface.

Pick up an edge card and the JAMMA Adapters made by Frank_fjs. Solder your lead wires to the JAMMA Adapter and run the wires to your coin mech of choice. Keeps everything clean without hacking up your harness.
 
Can you give me an idea of how that would work? I can't conceptualize how it all fits together but I'd love to not hack up the harness.

It would work just like in the picture below (ignore the green LED at the top of the picture).
  1. Solder the edge card to the JAMMA adapter
    • You'll have to bend the pins on the edge card inward just a little bit so they make contact to the adapter solder pads
  2. Jumper each of the pads (thats the blobs of solder you see running across the middle of the adapter)
  3. Solder on a lead wire to any one of the pads for Ground (pins 1, 2, 27, & 28 on the parts side. Plus the alternate pins on the solder side)
  4. Solder on a lead wire to the pad for Coin1 (pin 16 on the JAMMA parts side)
    • Just like how I soldered on the red meter to Ground and 5v (pin 3)
    • But in your case you would solder to Ground and Coin1 (pin16)
  5. Run those two wires to your coin mech
  6. Stick that adapter into the HAS and stick your PCB into the adapter

That is cool. However I suck at soldering and I noticed switching to a high quality harness increased video quality rather drastically which makes me want to keep that signal path as uninterrupted as possible. Wouldn't it be even cleaner to solder two new wires to my existing harness for the coin switch?

BTW should I be doing two wires from Coin 1 to one coin switch and two wires from Coin 2 to the other coin switch? Do some games have slightly different behavior for each pin?
