Just got in a cheap (but sold working) Combatribes PCB, and while it boots perfectly fine and operationally it's good, the sound is wild.

Just random sound effects coming through. Punch someone? Helicopter noise. Kick someone? Bomb goes off.

No coin up / attract mode / game music...just random SFX.

I haven't done anything more than just press on the socketed roms to see if something came loose during shipping. I will pull the roms and reseat them but has anyone seen this? Before I start doing the whole nine yards to the board I figured I'd see if anyone else has encountered this issue with these Technos boards.

Any help would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

I would start with a step you missed in there. Pull, clean, **verify**, reseat.

for the audio cpu and the 2 oki roms

Yes I’ll verify against good dumps soon. I just didn’t have the time to verify them as it’s clean up day for Easter lol...and if I didn’t clean my office and kept playing with the pcb (it just came in today) I’d have gotten shit for it. 🤣

I’ll check those roms soon. Just wasn’t sure if anyone had that particular error

test menu came up with “sound code 1” but googling that has come up with absolutely nothing so

Everything matches MAME dumps. Board has now started thinking every button is being depressed at once. When I first tested it there were just sound issues but controls worked fine. Now in the test menu pressing any button (not stick directions) registers all three buttons being pressed at once. Same issue in game.

executes code fine though.

Gonna just try to send it back to the person who sold it working / good. I don't want this level of hassle for a $50 buy. No signs of broken traces / no overheating chips / no change when pressing down on any of the IC's or main chips.

I thought it might just be sound ram but now that the control issue has cropped up that clearly means its something not just exclusive to the sound area of the pcb
