I've spent ages wondering why the CPS1 has a high failure rate of it's custom chips compared to the cps2 boards, I monitored my SF2 hyper fighting board the board does get quite warm after prolonged use especially around the Ao1 and CPU, I compared that to the fan cooled cps2 and the customs and chips hardly get warm under the original fan so do these chips fail because of heat issues or is it just old age / inner chip rot, or even to higher voltage.

I've seen various posts over the years of people sanding the a01 chip back to reveal the inner part to put heat sinks on lol that's a bit drastic I think one false move with the sander and that chip is a gonner, I put 25mm square heat sink radiators on the A01, the CPU and one on on my spare c board, my cab is fitted with twin cooling fans which blow air right through all 3 layers especially through the 2 radiators on the A board and now monitoring the board it's stays very cool not even socketed pals get warm on the c board.

Sounds like you're refering to one of my old blogspot posts? no one has ever or will ever sand an A01 chip to apply a heatsink directly to the die lol. I sanded a known dead one once to see the size of the die and what size heatsink I could get away with. I had some negative commends that it doesn't need a heatsink as it doesn't get hot enough but it's still going 10 years later. ^^

I didn't add a fan, but in a dedicated setup like you have why not, it's certainly not going to hurt.
