Hi,
I recently purchased a Street Fighter II' - Champion Edition (US 920313) board set, but it seems to have some sound issues and i am hoping that someone has seen this before. Most of the sounds are ok but certain samples such as the characters' special moves, Ryu's "Hadouken", Sagat's "Tiger" etc do not work, there is just silence. There are also no sounds for "You Win", "You Lose" as well as certain numbers during the continue countdown are missing. I have posted a couple videos to demonstrate this. Sorry for the aspect ratio and sound quality! When I did the sound menu test the first part of the video is the board and then the 2nd part is me testing the same sounds in MAME to see what they should have been. The board details are:
A Board: 89626A-4
B Board: 91634B-2
C Board: 92631C-6
I read that the sound samples may be held on roms 18 & 19. I decided to remove them, clean the contacts and reseat them. I noticed that one of the pins on rom 18 appears to have been repaired although this could be a red herring since the repair 'appears' ok. I have done some basic continuity tests with a multi meter, i do not have anything else to test with at the moment.
Has anyone seen this before, or does anyone know where these sounds are located, are they particular to a certain chip? Thank you
UPDATE: Found the problem and managed to replicate the sound issues in Mame. The data on eprom 19 was bad. I used a T48 Programmer to dump eproms 18 & 19 and substituted the roms from the same mame set as my board (sftceua) with the dumped files. The sound issues that I experienced with the board were replicated exactly. I narrowed it down further to rom 19 however, comparing rom 18 to known good dumps makes me think it's not right either. Hopefully over the weekend i will replace the 2 HN27C301G eproms with some HN27C101AG's that I have. I will have to change the jumpers for roms 18 and 19 as the new eproms have the Jdec pin configuration where as the old eproms are non Jdec.
Just replaced the 2 eproms, all good! Now.just need to wait for my EPROM eraser so I can try out hyperfighting & rainbow
