CPS3 Suicide?

You don't need a cd to test the simms at all. If you have a SuperBIOS cart just go to the Darksoft menu by holding P1 start and go to the flash memory option. The simm that is not registering will show as a blank slot. Be aware that a dirty cart or slot can also throw you this error.

Yeah, but if I'm showing a blank slot I can then switch out for one of my other SIMMs of the same size and see if that one registers since (I would think) the chances of 2 dead SIMMs would be pretty small

The cart has just been modded and confirmed working so that shouldn't be the issue, could be dirty slots but they also look extremely clean and I see nothing to suggest that's the issue either

I pressed P1 start and got no response, didn't realize it was a hold, hah, I tried booting it while holding P1 and it was looking for the CD and drive

Bad traces, bad solders on one of the ASICs may also cause problems that may prevent the detection of one or more simm slots.

Hopefully it's not that then, that would be game over for me. No chance I can do anything with those ASICs and their tiny pin pitch

Hopefully it's not the custom and if it is, I'll just have to send it for repair

Ok this is just weird. I can't get to the Darksoft menu by pressing or holding P1 start when I'm at the screen complaining of not enough memory. However if I boot the board while holding P1 start the board has the little spaceman and says checking CD... Please wait

Not sure where to go from here

Edit: got to Darksoft menu via holding p1 start while booting, then holding P1 start at checking CD screen, says SIMM1 is empty (just shows nothing there in the menu, doesn't say skip or anything) and the others show their manufacturers

Edit 2: confirmed. Swapped the 64mb SIMMS in the slots to see if the slot was ok, didn't read slot 2, swapped with my spare 64mb, all good now.
