What's new
Just got my new multiMVS. I have a 4-slot MVS cabinet but I am unable to get the multiMVS cart to boot with additional carts installed. I can only get the multiMVS to boot when installed in slot 1 by itself. Even then, when the cabinet first boots up it does not recognize the game (goes to hardware test screen). I must then perform a soft reboot (unibios 4.0) before it recognizes the cartridge. Am I doing something wrong? Nothing mentions this in the instructions. Games loaded onto the multiMVS appear to operate properly one I get it going, just cannot boot directly and not at all with any other cartridge installed in the motherboard.

I formatted the card and put the games file on the card, then renamed the new menu file to just menu and copied it over the existing menu file in the games file and I still just get the cross hatch screen after 5 minutes of waiting. I checked the menu file on the sd card, but it is still there. I am leaving town for a few days, i'll start trying again when I get home, or maybe i'll see if there is someone local who can help me. Like I said, I am a total moron when it comes to this stuff. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.
PM Sent. You just have to put the files in the right place.

Problem is Unibios 4.0 it takes too much CPU time and that happens. It has been discussed before. Stock BIOS should fix it.
Sorry my mistake. The Unibios issue is a different one.

It's a known bug of the UNIBIOS 4: "On Multislot hardware sound is missing if no game in SLOT 1 (bug introduced in v4)."

see http://unibios.free.fr/knownissues.html

Your problem is probably something else. Which motherboard are you using? Did you check your 5V? Which PSU are you using to power it?

Not the original poster but I'm having similar video flickering issues so I figured my info might help. I've had the flickering on RBFF2, Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer, and Robo Army. I'm on a MV4 board, stock BIOS, with my cart in slot 4. I checked my 5V at the MVS connector and it is right at 5.00V. This is a link to the power supply in my cabinet https://twistedquarter.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=521_522&products_id=232 . Let me know if any other information would be helpful

Just got my MVS multi from highscore saves. Outer box looked totally fine, but Immediately noticed that box rattled. I hoped it was just something in the box or some accessory or something...nope, it's in the cart. Sounds like an errant screw rolling around and some other movement in there. Not sure what else in there that could break off and rattle around.

Not sure what the correct course of action here is. Generally I'm ok with opening things up, but if this was anything else I'd be looking for an exchange. I know this stuff happens, but I'm a bit bummed out.

Does this cart take the .neo file format? I have a few romsets but they're all .neo. I have the darksoft set but it has a bunch of variants (which I don't like) and demos. I just want a mvs set without variants which I have but in .neo format. Thanks!

Thanks for the video, as it shows the expected operation of the cart. However, my cart does not act in this manner. When I first power on the motherboard, the multiMVS is not recognized at all. No matter how long I wait or how many times I cycle the game select it never loads. It acts as if the game is not present. If I perform a soft reboot (an option in unibios 4) it then reboots the motherboard and the multiMVS is then recognized and loads the filesystem. However, even when it does recognize the multiMVS, it shows a warning message "filesystem not ready" and then has to load the DDR after game selection. I created a video of the entire process.

When I was trying to figure this issue out I tried booting the system with only the multiMVS cart in the motherboard and on first boot up it was not recognized and the motherboard went to the hardware test screen and required a soft reboot to recognize, similar to when there are additional cartridges installed.

Sorry for that. There is 4 people that had this issue and I'm trying to find out what happened. For some reason in some carts the screw was not properly fixed. You can open it and just screw it again. Should be very simple process, just make it in a clean place, quietly and without rush. If you have any issues, please PM me and we'll solve it.

Thanks.

No, .neo files are for "the other" cartridge. You will need to remove the directories that you don't want to play, If that's what you want. The menu has some filters when navigating games, and you can choose by company, year, Type of game, etc. Maybe that would be a good option for you too.

The "filesystem not ready" means that there is a problem with the microSD integrity or that it's still reading from the microSD, maybe after switching slots rapidly. Try deleting the BUFF file from the microSD.
About the LOADING DDR, it's normal that it loads the DDR after exiting the menu or the first time that you power the cartridge. A part of the game is loaded into Flashes and another part loaded into RAM, once the RAM part is loaded and unless you do a reset, or change the game, the data will still be there and booting will be immediate.

So if you wait, let's say 30 seconds and then switch slot, up to slot 4, which is where the multi seems to be, does it not change to that slot 4?
From what I can see the games seem to work well, right? Can you try in a different slot.

I would start over with the SD card. Format it then put the rollup back on it. Make sure there are no buff files present. Then boot up the cabinet with the multi installed and literally leg it sit got about 10 minutes. The initial setup for a new card takes a looooooong time. Once it boots for the first time load three COMPLETELY DIFFERENT games than you have loaded now.

Waiting longer didn’t help. I’ll try starting over with the SD card tomorrow after work as recommended by Mitsurugi and report back.

Using a fat 32 formatted sdhc card, I created the new folder "update", then in the update folder I created "menu" folder. I then downloaded the latest menu update, extracted it, and copied it to the menu folder on the sd card. Now all I am getting is the cross hatch test screen. I am not tech savvy at all when it comes to this stuff, so I need very specific instructions if possible. Thanks
Hello,
Just recevied the cart. I have the same issue as kidrivers. The MVS 161 is working fine but with the Multi MVS, I have the cross test screen. The SD is fine (I have the AES version as well).
I'm in unibios 4.0. Same issue with my 2 MVS MV1B model (both in unibios 4.0).

Thanks for the support.

Do you think that the microSD is inserted properly or did you notice any problem wihe microSD slot? Are you sure that you have the folder menu inside \games\menu ?

The fact that you see the cross hatch is because the motherboard cant access the program rom, which is usually an issue with the cart not making a proper contact or the microSD slot or files inside.

Please let us know and we'll get it sorted.

After checking, I made sure to have latest MVS menu files in (assuming D: is the SD Volume) :
- D:\games\menu
- D:\update\menu

I had the cross hatch but still waited for 30 seconds. It then reboot and everything is now working fine.

Thanks!

Hi guys,

Waiting for a copy of the cartridge and having read the manual, I have some questions:

My MVS slot all have a rechargeable battery on a holder. If I don't play for a while, the battery is empty and must be recharged by playing. Will the cartridge encounter problems if I start a game session with a discharged battery? If so, what kind of problems? And why?

Same question if I start on a slot without a battery (but perfectly functional otherwise)?

Is there a setting in the menus (perhaps related to backup ram) that allows you to do without a battery?

Thanks,

Battery is there to keep the settings and the high score. If it's empty it can create some configuration issues, but the cart should work properly. Just give it a try.

Thanks for the reply, as soon as I receive it I will do some tests .
