Hey all, imagine that you were an extreme noob, and you bought an untested Naomi 2 on the off chance that it might just work, but it of course doesn't. When you connect it to your rev b Sega IO and power up your Blast City, the board powers on, various lights light up, the fan begins to run, but no image. Let's say you then popped a known-working Naomi game into the board, but still no dice. What would you check first? You know... theoretically speaking.
 
I'm assuming you've checked everything down the chain as well right? Your set up works with other arcade hardware or is the Naomi your only system?

The typical checks are also important. Make sure you have the right voltages, I would check cables for continuity.
 
Yes, I failed to mention that I've got a working Naomi 1. No issues running that one at all. Got a CvS cart also, which I used to test the Naomi 2.
 
Check the super cap for any leaks and rip that baby off when you are at it. Google it if you can’t find it.
Most of the times on n2 the buffer 9 and 10 blow also the BGA will float. Keep in mind this

on a Naomi 2 there are 2 BGA fans if they don’t spin or won’t make a certain RPM the watchdog comm won’t let the Naomi boot . So check those
 
Thanks for the responses everybody.

First off, untested my foot. I was examining the board and was like, "huh, how do you open this guy up? I don't see any screws." Well, there were no screws, as in they had already been taken out, haha. So, I popped the top of the case off. Hooked it back up to the Blast City and powered it on. With the top of the case off, I was able to see that one of the fans (I assume these are CPU and/or GPU fans?) wasn't spinning. I gave it a little push, and it came on (thanks for the tip on this AMS). With that, I got a garbled picture. I switched the Blast to 31k and got a clear picture. I was then able to see that it was throwing the "this game is unacceptable" (not verbatim, probably) error. I threw in my CvS board, and it actually booted with no issue.

I dropped my netdimm board in and got the "gateway not found" (again, probably not verbatim) error, which is apparently what you want to see when configuring netboot setup?

Sounds like maybe we're in the clear, possibly? Maybe I'll just replace that fan and see how it goes, I think.
 
Came here to say check the fans, glad @AMS recommended it.

Definitely replace the fan though. With any luck that'll do it. Gateway not found is normal for a netdimm that's not connected to a network.
 
Yes, non spinning fans will cause it not to boot. Also while it is open, try pressing down on the ram chips above and below the large chrome heat sink while booting it, I have found faulty connections that needed to be re-flowed there.
