This is probably a very ignorant and uniformed set of questions so my apologies up front.

However, I'm going to be attempting some Taito F3 cartridge conversions and I'm not sure if I'm going to need to create D77-14 and D77-15 ICs for mapping of the various ROM sizes, but in the event that I do, I want to be prepared.

From the PLD Archive, it seems that the definition files for those ICs are for a PALCE16V8 target. I have two programmers (XGecu T48 and XGecu T56) and I've programmed GAL16V8's with them before (and I also have extras lying around), but I'm assuming that a PALCE16V8 is not necessarily equivalent to a GAL16V8.

So my questions are - in this application:
  1. Could I use a GAL16V8 with the PALCE16V8 jedec file?
  2. If not, what programmer can I use to program a PALCE16V8? In the XGPro software, there is no listing for the PALCE16V8 and I've checked out the IC defnitions in MiniPro and also tried out WinCupl and still no dice on the PAL. So clearly either I'm missing something or the PAL can be programmed under another device name (e.g., the GAL16V8 ).
If anyone has any pointers, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Until then... I think I have my work cut out for me carefully desoldering the ROMs and removing solder from like a billion vias on these F3 cartridges :-D
