Does the Artax v4 .img get smaller when writing to a 1TB SSD?

Hi All,

I'm pretty new in to all of this and have been able to secure a TTX3 intended for use with a multi like Artax. I was able to find the file (I think) but I'm having some space issues at the moment. Compressed, the file size is about 454GB. When I go to uncompress the .img file, it goes a bit over 1TB-- my formatted 1TB SSD has only 931 GB free space. Because of this, I can't write the .img to another 1TB Drive.

If I were to get a 2TB SSD to place the uncompressed .img file, would it get smaller somehow from the process and be able to write to a 1TB SSD as specified in many of the instructions I've read? Or, is there a chance I've picked up the wrong fileset (through arcadepunks) to begin with?

Thanks for the help!!

I am in the wrong here. After testing the archive through 7zip, I noticed that the img file size is exactly 931 GB. I think I need to properly format (not quick format) my 1TB drive to make sure I have absolutely all the space I can get so that 7zip doesnt give me the "Not enough space on disk" error.

Full format went successfully.. Still getting the error message "Can not set length for output file: there is not enough disk space" but seems like it's still working to uncompress the file.

Going to just leave it see what happens despite the error message

It sounds like you’re doing it wrong. You’re supposed to extract the archive onto a drive bigger than 1TB, so that you have the 931GB .img file sitting in a folder. Then use a program like Win32 Disk Imager or HDDRawCopy to select and write that .img file to your 1TB SSD.

Thanks so much! It definitely was short and had errors at the end so I'll go and get a bigger drive to extract on to before writing the .img file. I don't have any drive larger than 1TB at the moment.

Also thanks LOL I forgot extract was the more common term for unzipping/uncompressing files that are compressed aka archived. Now that I read it in the morning, it's nauseating seeing how many times I said uncompress <X
