People love the E2!

You know while in Japan virtually every arcade I went into... If they had a CRT cab period it was a E2 or E3.

Zero Blast City, Aero City, Astro City, I did see a New Net however ONE.

I don't agree with that, but I stay in Tokyo. :P It's 99% Blast City cabs here, unless you're at Hey!
Sega arcades, Mikado, TRY, and Tokyo Leisure Land all use(d) some combination of BC or NAC. Egrets are truly rare birds. I assume this is why their second-hand prices are so high while BC's, NAC's, and Aeros go for almost nothing.

I was in Tokyo... The Sega arcades don't even have JAMMA games period (I was beyond disappointed)!

See not a single JAMMA/CRT cab on floor 1...

While I do not live in Japan I did spend almost 6 solid days in Tokyo...
The Sega arcades are just sad and pathetic to me, I stand by my original assessment.
NO * City cabs! They only care about playing that Gundam Virtual On game now (I think it sucks hard).

Being a huge Vewlix fan, this was basically my holy land!

Just look at all that AWESOME! I need a change of pants...

Also speaking in general about Tokyo, I didn't like it very much.
Yea the arcades are cool,
I wasn't allowed at places like the Hot Springs without covering my tattoos (fuck you Japan).
No weed obviously but other than whisky/beer I can't drink, no real alcohol to speak of (damn Japan don't you know I need to get tore up daily).
I also found the people really polite, sicking so... I like NYC man, where random strangers can just tell me to go fuck myself for no reason whatsoever.

Let's start a new movement "OCCUPY HEY"..Focus - Taito make new Egreets and force companies to make new NaNao CRTs:)

So you only went to Akihabara? To one Sega arcade? And they all suck? That's like going to Times Square, and saying NYC sucks.. Too many tourists, and I hate McDonalds food. There are literally dozens and dozens of Sega arcades across Tokyo, and each one has wildly different setups. The one closest to my house has 6 BC cabs with a rotating list of games.

Right around the corner from that first pic you took is the Sega Museum (3 min walk?). On the 6th, 7th, and 8th floors they have a vintage arcade museum with dozens of games and deluxe cabs from the early 80s to the late 90s. On the other side of the station is the Natsuge Museum, and they have arcade games and cabs that you will never see anywhere else. Rarest of the rare, and anyone is invited in to play.

Yea the arcades are cool, but the food was awful for me (what has no asian person has ever had a gluten allergy
I honestly think it only affects Americans. I've been here 10+ years now, and never met a single person that has this, and its never mentioned in the media here. So no - I don't think it affects even 1% of 1% of the people here.

Anyhow, I've been to almost 100 arcades across the country, and done write ups of quite a few here:

You can look at interior pics that I've taken and count cabs. I still say Egrets are some of the rarest, unless you want to count Ponys, Mini cutes, or some of the cabs that had tiny production runs like the Mega-Lo.

I gave another forum member here some notes last month (Ive been to tokyo 3 times in the last 18months). Aki is a good place to go to just check it off a bucket list - but the very last place to go to if you want to buy anything, or to explore the culture, etc. And especially food. HEY! and super potato (and a robot museum) are the only reasons I go to Aki. Even g-front changed in the past year - in the past you could browse, but now you cant.

Like rancor said, there is a crap load of sega arcades. And about a 10min walk from the one you went to there is another one which I prefer (it's hidden in those back alleys). Go to the top floor - vewlix and BCs and egrets. Or was this a taitostation? I forget - but the further you walk away from aki, the more fun and interesting it is.

I even went down to village near izu kogen (like an hour south of tokyo) where in the middle of no where there was a freakin' arcade with candys, and even a small monkey just hanging out. Like, a real wild monkey just hanging out on the street. I didnt know what blew me away more - an arcade in the middle of the 1800's or a monkey! :)

Im not into seafood at all, and japan is the wrong place for my taste buds. So I would have kobe beef (gyuan in ginza) daily. And I dont have a sweet tooth, but you cant turn down those donuts at pompador (theres one at most major subway stations). And the frenchbread with cheese..You need to explore. Definitely go again - and make it a point to NOT go to akihabara.

Ill see if I can put my notes in order and post here for other members that plan trips.

@jassin000 celiac? My wife has it and it really sucks. Waiting to find out whose immune system my 11 mo old daughter inherits mine or hers. I would have thought Japan would be better for that, I thought rice is a major thing there.

Yea this 100%, I never expected it and I wouldn't have believed it unless I experienced it first hand.

I've been to no less then a bizzalion Japanese Steak Houses in Boston/NYC and its never been a issue, now I understand this is Americanized Japanese food...
Not representative of actual Japanese food whatsoever.

@rancor I went into a few Sega arcades, not just one BTW... I only pictured one because I simply have too many pictures to post them all.
I believe you when you say some have CRT cabs, but I personally didn't see a single one and this was a extreme disappointment to me.

Soy sauce having wheat in it is a major PITA when it comes to Japanese food (celiac here too).

Steak rolled in panko breading, then deep fried is also a perfect way to ruin it.

I asked at a few places... "can I just have you put that on a grill for a sec, no seasoning, no breading, just the meat still bleeding?"
This is how they answered that question...

Don't need to speak Japanese to understand this ^ means you're fucked!

That was pork, not steak. I've never seen anywhere that serves steak like that. Steak is too expensive to do that to, and as you said it would be seen as ruined. Eat raw pork, and you're gonna get intestinal worms. I believe the wait staff were protecting you from yourself by not serving it undercooked... lol.

I found the food in Tokyo really nice.... I'm not a big seafood fan but if you look around at the small restaurants that the locals eat at (particularly around lunchtime for the business crowd) you can get great food and really reasonably priced too.

Granted being a celiac makes it harder, Japan lives on a diet high in gluten (rice, noodles etc) but there are plenty of other food options. I love ramen so I ate a lot of it while I was there

I remember that Taito arcade with the rows and rows of E2s, I played GG Xrd Revelator there before it was out on PS4 in the rest of the world, along with the Star Wars Battle Pod

Tokyo is like any city, if you're only looking for the touristy food, that's all you're going to find, especially in Akiba... Maid cafes, lol

Shame to hear that G Front doesn't allow browsing anymore, they only had a small shop though and it was always really full, so most of the time you had to ask the staff if they had something anyway and it was on a shelf in the rear, Mak was good for browsing though, just insanely cramped.

I actually found the people in NYC pretty nice in general - a couple of people even asked me for directions, maybe it's because I'm an Aussie?

Have you tried tamari soy sauce? That's little to no wheat. Granted, requesting that in a restaurant in Japan (or anywhere) is impossible.

Oh yeah, always keep wheat free tamari on hand, I can cook or do just about anything at home with a little creativity. It's traveling and eating out that's tricky.

I was there in April 2014 and the Club Segas in Akihibara had plenty of CRT games. Guess things have changed in the last three years. One of them definitely had two floors worth.
