The 1993 Sega CD port of Final Fight replaced the arcade's brief story block with a fully animated opening. Final Fight EX puts that cutscene on the arcade game, running as native CPS-1 graphics through a new cutscene engine. The stock game, its timing and its gameplay are left intact.
What's in it
- The Sega CD opening, rebuilt as native CPS-1 graphics: the Metro City map, the Mad Gear line-up, Damnd's sketch and the knife, Haggar's phone call, and the Cody & Guy montage.
- The ending's reunion scene between Haggar and Jessica, redrawn from the Sega CD.
- English captions for the CD's spoken dialogue in the USA build.
- A new Final Fight EX title screen.
- A hidden stage select: hold attack and jump and press Start on the title screen.
- Two builds: USA and Japan, each matched to its region's disc dialogue and artwork.
The opening sets the scene in Metro City.
Cody and Guy resolve to take on Mad Gear.
The ending's new scene: Haggar and Jessica's reunion, redrawn from the Sega CD.
The hidden stage select.
New in rc3
- A hidden stage select: hold attack and jump and press Start on the title screen.
Getting it running
- You need your own Final Fight CD disc image for each region you build (the USA disc for the USA set, the Japan disc for the Japan set), and your own arcade Final Fight romset (
ffight, ffightuandffightj, as .zip or .7z). The kit puts the sets together on your machine. - The cutscene art needs far more room than the original game had, so the graphics grow from 2 MB to 6 MB. It runs in HBMAME (
ffightus01,ffightjs01) and on MiSTer's jtcps1 core, alongside the stock game. It doesn't run in stock MAME. - The cutscenes play over the arcade game's own music and effects.

The cutscene art derives from Capcom's Final Fight CD. Fan work, unaffiliated with Capcom or Sega.
