Yet another Japanese computer from the basement up for sale...
This is an FM Towns II model CX20 computer from Japan. Includes the computer, keyboard, mouse, monitor, gamepad, original manual and software, and an NEC multi-sync LCD monitor. Both floppy drives have been tested working just fine.
The CX20 has 26MB of RAM (the maximum for this model) and a SCSI2SD installed with an SD card partitioned and formatted. Requires use of Towns OS (in Japanese) to manage the hard drives. Most games cannot be run from the hard drive, so it's only really useful if you want to run graphics or music packages. I have confirmed that the hard drives mount in Towns OS, but I have not installed any software to them; YMMV.
The CX20 also has the "Wizard" optical disc emulator (ODE). These haven't been made in some time and are hard to find and a little challenging to install. This ODE is installed behind the front panel and allows you to emulate the CD-ROM drive. It provides a simple menu for selecting your CD and then boots the game. There is a switch on the board that when you flip it, the CX20 boots from the original (and working) CD-ROM drive! So you get the best of both worlds.
The monitor has been recapped and is working, but the picture on these are fiddly with games running in 15, 24, and 31kHz requiring constant adjustments. Everything is dialed in for 31kHz right now. I am including an NEC multi-sync LCD monitor that syncs to 15, 24, and 31kHz RGB signals. The CX20 has an additional RGB video card installed and outputs to 2 displays simultaneously!
Everything is in excellent condition with no broken plastics. Comes from a pet-free and smoke-free home.
