Hi,

Began when I noticed a member selling a WW to GNG conversion. His was based on a WW 90629B-2 rom board with a B-17 c-board. I had a similar working 90629B-3 board and I asked him for his files, which he kindly sent me. Had buyicnow burn the GAL and Graphics chips, I did the program and sound. Put it together and I actually works except that the graphics are garbled. Sound works and I can play the game (sorta).

I made sure I got JEDEC Roms. Besides pulling the chips and verifying them, am I missing something?

Funny, I saw that thread. I have to pull the chips to verify them anyway so I’ll give the alternate order a try too.

A couple more things:

The 4th boss "worm" is missing a lot of elements. Some segments and the background is missing. The worm appears "striped" with missing sections. Everything else is fine. I'm going to run the roms through romident in a sec. I suspect that one of the graphics roms may have an issue, but I verified them all as mentioned earlier.

I'm also new to this version, but is it normal for the 2nd play-though to have no continues? When I died out, the count fast-forwarded and I was unable to continue.

So interesting:

gng.zip is my set, ghouls.zip is downloaded from cool roms, supposedly the "world" romset.

So if I read this right 1-4 graphics identical. 09 (sound I think) no match. graphics 10-13 no match. 28-38 are program so it makes sense if they don't match.

Would be super if I just knew which rom had the worm graphics on it lol.

I believe it's a dip setting.

Continues work in the 1st playthough? The dips don't mention anything about 1st vs 2nd playthoughs

Using the files you sent me I burned the ROMs and installed them on the same revision WW pcb. I have strange jailbar issues on background textures in some areas and on some bosses, but it plays fine otherwise. Some levels it's hardly noticable.

The PCB I used for the conversion had been in a cab that lived outside before I bought it and salvaged the parts I could, so it was covered in dirt and rat poop. I cleaned it and it was working as a SF but was missing character sounds (I just had background sounds). I assumed there was an issue with sockets or something because they showed some minor corrosion. Eventually I reburned all the roms, and cleaned all the sockets with deoxit and a fiberglass brush and still had the same issues. I've lived with it for months until last night I was digging in a stash of boards and found I had another WW I forgot about, clean/plays perfectly, so I started swapping A, B and C boards to isolate the issue and even swapped all the burned ROMs to the other boardset and no matter what I have the issue. I've spent so many hours chasing this at this point. It really seems like there has to be one ROM with specific textures that's wrong.

I thought I'd login on here and see if anyone else had info and found your post. Seems too coincidental that we are using the same files and have such similar issues.

Ok, seems like it’s just the rooms then. For me I can only tell on the “worm” boss. I’m my case too it’s just a salvaged broken b&c board so the fact that I got it doing anything is a win.

Found this post that suggests that cps1 boards don’t really like the AMD rom chips (AM27C4096) 150ns, which is exactly what I have. Apparently if you use AMD it needs to be 120ns. Otherwise NEC intel or hitchi.

@Silly_B , what chips do you have?

It was a total hodge-podge of old chips I had in my drawer. There were several different brands but I'm pretty sure there were AMDs. A few even looked like they might be counterfeits! They all burned and verified ok, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if that was the issue. I might need to buy some good chips to fix it.

where can i get a gal16v8 from some circuit board to reprogram it for ghouls n ghosts conversion?

Buyicnow.com can sell you the chip and program it.

I was able to carry out the conversation. but the game starts in the middle. Does anyone know what can it be?

so, were you able to make it work using the WW pcb or not?
