Anyone know where I can find high quality JIS hardware?

The screws that come on most Japan-made cabs and PCBs use JIS screws. Unlike Phillips screws, JIS screws have a tighter grip when paired with JIS screwdrivers as compared to Phillips screws and screwdrivers. Phillips head was designed to cam out in order to prevent stripping on aircraft hardware hence the difference in design compared to JIS. More information on JIS vs Phillips can be found here.

Anyway, I'm looking for a source for high quality JIS hardware; you know, those gold-colored screws with the dot on the head. The hardware found on Amazon, etc. is pure trash in my experience.

The Phillips system was invented for use in assembling aluminum aircraft, with the object of preventing assemblers from tightening screws so tightly that the aluminum threads strip. The driver will “cam out” before that happens. The Phillips driver has four simple slots cut out of it, each slot is the result of two machining processes at right angles. The result of this process is that the arms of the cross are tapered and has slightly rounded corners in the tool recess. Phillips is designed so that when excess torque is applied it will cam out rather than ream the recess and destroy the bit.

Oh wow, no wonder it's shit.

I am not a business and I have ordered from McMaster-Carr many times with no issues. Small orders and large orders alike. I've never had any kind of minimum order total imposed. I think of them as the Digikey of hardware/materials. I'm in the US, so perhaps there aren't restrictions like they might impose on international orders.

I saw it in another thread, but any good set of JIS screwdrivers for a good price?

Thanks for that information. I'll check them out.

Look for something made by Vessel or Anex.
Second that.

Get yourself a #2 Vessel to start. That'll fit M3, M4, and M5 screws which is what you're most likely to encounter.
