So at the start of the year I acquired a Naomi from a mate who's had it in an unused Versus City cab for about seven years. Figured I'd work out means to consolise it and use it at local fighting game events. Get a modern i/o board, run the VGA output through an OSSC, a fairly simple job right? What has instead ensued is an endless journey of woe and misery.

See, no matter what I do so far this is how things look and run.

First I guessed it was the VGA cable. Used several replacements with the same result.

Next, surely it's the modern cheap ATX PSU I bought doing its stabilising to mess with the power, right?

Bought an adjustable one. Still the same.

Then my IONA arrived and I gues it's one of the Naomis that just hates those things because it constantly kills the game no matter what method I use to power the IONA. No biggie, I've forked out for a C-BOX since there's some JAMMA games I want to run through it anyway. Delayed gratification and all that.

So I'm at my wit's end here. Is this a wiring issue, a power issue, a video output issue or is this Naomi just a bad egg? Thanks for helping out a foolish newbie enthusiast.

That sucks! My guess is that it's the Naomi unit itself? Was it ever working?

Are you Netbooting or running original carts?

p.s. good cop on the CBOX :)

(Thanks for the prompt service as always djsheep of CandyCabClub Dot Com!)

The Naomi was running fine when that Versus City was last booted up. The Virtua Tennis 2 footage there is from an actual cart. I do have a NetDimm all set up though in this latest round of testing it's started hitting me with Error 01 as well. That began after I started adjusting the 3V and 5V knobs on the C-box so I'm kind of worried that's been fried now.

Measure the 3.3v and 5v perfectly by using multimeter leads into the power connector and see what happens. Also clean the contacts on the cart. Maybe open the system and cart and reseat any chips or parts.

Do you just have one cart to test with?

Have you tried another game with it to see if you still get this mess?

I dunno to me that looks like something got corrupted on your cart, i once helped a friend of mine who's Naomi kept crashing with Virtual NBA.
I did what an arcade op would do, run a RAM test then run a ROM test, while the RAM test was fine the ROM test said some of the ROM chips were corrupted.

Sure enough if i selected specific teams i got garbled graphics and soon after a crash. It was even crashing while running Royal Rumble.

So my guesses are, your cart has gone bad, RAM has gone bad or something inside the Naomi is on its way out.

Ah yea if more than one cart does it you're probably right. I have had a single bad cart do similar, but replacing the cart fixed the issue.
