Mario Bros with background sprite errors

Hi, I was gifted a 1983 Mario Bros cab which surprisingly still works, save for some background sprite issues. Platforms are missing and I have vertical lines all over the screen instead.

Just so I have an idea of what I'm dealing with before I extract the PCB -- what are some common causes for something like this?
