What's new

Maybe my Multimeter is busted but.... help?

How many wires do you have for +5V? Ideally you would want one wire per pin.

Ive put the JAMMA stuff away to make some room in my office/workspace, I probably won't be able to get back to it until this weekend, but as far as I can tell there was one +5v line that was separated in the harness when it arrived. You know how they kinda bunch the buttons/directions, power, etc. The one that had the 12, 5, -5 and ground only had those. Should there be more than one in the harness itself?

That could be your issue if there's only one wire per rail and the gauge is too small. You could compare the voltage at the PSU to what you were getting at the jamma connector to see what kind of drop you have.

There's four pins for +5V on the connector:

If you decide to add more wires for your +5V, make sure that you have enough ground wiring as well.

If your voltage drops a lot between the PSU and JAMMA edge, then yeah, your 5V wire(s) is not of sufficient gauge. Also the longer the run the worse the voltage drop especially with thinner wires.

So this is the harness, it looks like one of the larger wires is soldered to all 4 pins. I take it this isn't sufficient?

I may have another harness here somwehere, it is an extender, but I can compare the two and if need be, just remove the fingerboard at the end.

It's probably like a 3-4 foot long harness? One 20 AWG wire definitely isn't enough for a power hungry board like PR.

Im not sure on the temperature, sorry. I wasn't running the board for very long, I just tested it for video and sound. I'll probably end up going with that harness from Twisted Quarter. Thanks!

For reference a single 20awg wire would (should) only handle about 7.5 watts.

Sorry, didnt see this reply!

Yeah its about 5 feet long I think. Maybe longer, maybe 6 feet. Looks like I definitely need a new harness. Ah well, live and loin.
