Model 3 (Daytona USA 2) Rom Conversion

Hi,

I recently bought six Daytona USA cabinets that seem to come with Power Edition inside. Could someone point me in the right direction to read up on how to convert them back to Battle on the Edge?

I assume it’s just a matter of converting certain roms but I don’t know which ones nor have I ever rewritten roms before.

You have to change all of the roms, not just certain ones. There's 41 chips in all.

Also IC1-8 are 64MB mask type, so good luck converting that. Spikeout/Spikeout FE/Daytona 2 BOTE and Ocean Hunter all use 64MB roms on board.

Ah, but security is patched on BOTE and PE.

Ok. From what I’m hearing it sounds like the easiest way is to just find a copy of the old version of the game and drop it in?

I just grabbed this on eBay.

Can I just switch these boards into the Model 3 or are there more steps? (Is the smaller one the security board folks are talking about?)

I’ll need to find a second copy as I want to set up linked play.

You can just replace the PE rom board with that. Smaller board is the security board.

6 Player Daytona 2 is really nice! Don't forget that the game also offers a live monitor.

I had the opposite issue as I wanted to go for PE. Mainly because of the extra track made of a combination of the other 3. But the round track is so much nicer on BOTE.

Need to check how many BOTE and security boards I still have if you like to trade.
