MV-1FZS No Battery = OK?

Hi y'all,

I recently bought a Super Neo 29 and I took apart my MV-1FZS just to see the condition it was in. You know, making sure there was no leaky battery or...

There's actually no battery at all! I don't know much about arcade boards, but I recognize a spot where a battery is supposed to be, and it almost looks like someone ripped it off.

I looked online and saw many boards that were damaged by batteries leaking and no batteries trip a "No Calendar" error. But I've had no such error. Now my games always reset
and the calendar always starts at zero, but I thought it was because I constantly turned it off at the source.

Like I said, I'm no expert, so I have no idea if something was done to the board. Does it look modded in a way that it would keep it from throwing the error? I was thinking of buying a replacement battery on Amazon and putting it in. (Or having my tech friend do it )

I don't really care about bookkeeping or keeping my high score and before I opened it up, it worked perfectly fine. (It still works fine btw, I just opened it up again to take the pics)

Any advice or info is SUPER MEGA TURBO appreciated!

It's fine without the battery, if you don't care about the calendar and soft dips just leave it off.

Someone did the right thing and removed that battery before it could wreck the board. It will work fine as long as you don't want scores, settings and the date/time saved. No extra mod needed.

I yanked mine about a year ago, right when it started oozing a little. It’s been running like a champ ever since.

Like everyone else said, you should be OK with it removed. It just won't save the DIP settings of the game, etc.

However, I recommend installing a coin cell battery in it's place if you want to future proof it. It pretty easy to do and you are already halfway there since the battery is already removed for you.
(Just make sure you snip off the R470 resistor to disable the recharge circut, or else it will charge up the normal battery replacement and bad things will happen).

Whoa! Thanks for the vid Del! I'll check it out and subscribe! I fixed my Dreamcast battery issue so feeling a little more confident with my soldering skills!

The solution with the button battery is great..
I solved the problem with the battery by placing it outside the GameBoard. The flooded battery looks quite well preserved, so I used it again.
