I’ve tested Virtua Fighter, Virtua Striker 3 and Initial D games

Virtua Fighter, I dont get past the first 10 seconds after insert coin appears

Initial D, I don’t get past the 1st Attract mode play.

Virtua Striker 3, after I select a country, it freezes and plays the bgm.

All have some small graphical artifacts on the screen.

I’m using @psykom1’s Naomi 2, so I know it’s legit and is working fine.

I made sure the power is perfect 5v and 3.3v exactly.

All other Naomi 1 games run perfectly.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks!

just to add, I have a Supergun and using a NetDIMM of these roms. I’ve heard from others they had no problems running it from these setups, but maybe I might have bad luck on this one.

Post your power configuration.
Pictures of how you got things wired up.
Check your BIOS DIP settings.
How are things wired.

We can all better understand whats happening.

Naomi equipment can be finicky in non-SEGA cabinet environments.

Sun PSU connected to
Naomi 2 which powers
NetDimm with 2 512mb RAM and
PiForce 1.5

400w Atx Power Supply connected to
Retroelectronik Supergun connected to
Sega JVS To JAMMA I/O

BIOS switches are all down (default for japanese games) vga 31khz dell 2007fpb screen

I understand the I/O won’t let me play driving games, but just want it to run through attract mode without any hiccups.

May i ask if you're Netdimm Is updated? Also depends on the region of the dip switches. Does everything else work? But for what i know that VF4 will work you mainly need to disable the network mode for the game and you will be good to go. Post the information inquired by @psykom1 so we can help troubleshoot your issue.

If i am not mistaken you gotta update it a few times. Like say you have 3.12 whichever is after that then update to that and keep going till you get to the latest one. As of the video glitches might be either the supergun or something else.

The problem is I couldn’t get any updates to work based off the last correspondence on that thread. I’m still able to most of the naomi 1 library without any issues with my current setup. This is only specific to naomi 2.

Mugen is correct, you need to be on a higher firmware with that NetDimm.
Thanks for reaching out @dannahan Its best you use forums to cross-reference your configuration with a community.
You should find all the help, and documentation here to get things configured.

Weirdest thing is that it ran Club Kart fine. So I’m not so sure it’s the firmware for the netdimm since technically it shouldn’t been able to play it?

UPDATE: Ended up sending it to a repair shop that specializes is Naomi boards. Lots of caps were bad on the unit as most of them looked like they might burst. It randomly locks up when he plays Naomi 2 games on the system. When he uses his Naomi 2 with my netdimm, it plays normally. He says the 3.12 firmware on the NetDimm had nothing to do with freezing. He says he will recap the board. It won’t be guaranteed 100% it will fix it, but it’s worth a shot.

Anyways I’m going to look out for another Naomi 2 unfortunately...

May i ask how you know the voltage spitting out the supergun? Did you measure it with a multimeter? There's also no display of the voltmeter on this super gun so i am very curious to know.

I did use a multimeter. Tuned the SUN PSU to 5.0 and 3.3v respectively before I plugged them in.

Regardless, I got confirmation from someone who repairs Naomi boards for a living. All of board's caps were, putting it lightly, in "bad condition" and there's really no way to save it. He was surprised it was still able to run Naomi 1 games.

Lessons learned...

Most likely your voltages will have been low with the Naomi 2. You need to always adjust voltages under load. Connect the Naomi 2, measure the voltages, do the necessary adjustments, then reboot.

I've also increased the voltage by .05 increments, up to 5.1 and 3.4 respectively, just to make sure it's not dropping using the original psu I got with the unit supplied by the owner, and it STILL freezes after a minute. Again, I had this professionally tested and that person confirmed the same findings. He did notice the board had swollen caps which was already a warning sign. However, even fixing that might not be 100%.

Apparently, from the BGAs being loose, voltage stability, to the fans not working properly, Naomi 2's are known to be fussy from what I've been told.

I was having a freezing problem with my Naomi 1 a while back.
I installed small LED voltmeters onto the 5v and 3.3v pins on my sun psu and my jamma harness 5v pin and zip tied them to the wire bundle. It was awkward to check the sun psu pins while the power is on so it worked out really well.
Have not had a problem since, also, really nice to not have to use the multimeter all the time when switching games... power down, turn voltage down a little, install new board, set correct voltage.

The problem is that it played Naomi 1 games fine. It was the Naomi 2 games that caused an issue.

I was just sharing my story as an example...
Just confirming, what Nem said... are you setting the voltage while the game is powered on?
I guess what I was trying to say is that my cabinet and Sun PSU, with the mini voltmeters, will always give me voltage readings under load.
I was previously testing the voltages before plugging the PSU into the motherboard and it gave me problems.
Recap anything you find suspicious, even if you don't feel that it will do much, but don't attempt anything you aren't comfortable with or haven't practiced. :^)

Naomi 2 games utilize more of the hardware than Naomi 1 games, so like above, I would double check the voltages.

Hi,

I have the exact same issue. It's not only freezing but also somehow messing with my zero pic. After it freezes I cannot boot Naomi 1 or 2 and need to rewrite the pic.

Naomi 1 Games work fine after that. Where is the easiest place to measure the voltages on the Sun PSU without taking it out of my universal cab?

You have to jam your multimeter needles inside the molex connector.

If you take the time to install the mini voltmeters, i'm not saying it WILL fix the problem, but will eliminate future voltage frustration!
