Hello everyone,

I’m attempting to convert a stand up Naomi universal cabinet into a crazy taxi from an 18 Wheeler but I’m hitting some roadblocks has anyone done this before that might be able to share some tips on how it’s done or maybe a previous thread on this?

Thank you!

I've owned both cabs at one point. You'll have a hard time if you don't have the Crazy Taxi control panel.

Bummer :( is it pretty different? I have the shifter and wheel for crazy taxi

The wheel assembly is very different due to the 900 degree rotation.

Can you show me a pic of what exactly do you have?

These are the crazy taxi parts, the 18 wheeler was a complete cab so I still have all those as well

I took pictures of my cabs.

18 Wheeler:

Jambo Safari (same as CT):

Cut off the studs and put some new bolts in?

I’ve done the 18 wheeler to crazy taxi conversion. I followed an old sega-naomi.eu post that said to take pin 23 out and place it in where pin 24 would be. Alternatively, you can dual wire pin 23 to 25 and 24 to 26 to make the shifter work correctly. Even though the 18 wheeler steering has different end stops than the crazy taxi wheel (320 vs 270 degrees if I recall correctly), Crazy Taxi and Jambo Safari was totally playable. Eventually I hacked up a cheap original Xbox wheel, transferred over a Crazy Taxi steering assembly and made an interface box so I can run Outrun 2 in a modded 128mb ram Xbox on the upright Naomi. All reversible if I wanted to go back to Naomi hardware.

Slight necrobump here, sorry. @d7onr8 do you have any documentation or description of how to do this xbox interface?
I have a 128mb ram xbox, so this feels like it would be a very cheap way to play Outrun 2 on my Jambo cab. :)

Outrun 2 running on the Chihiro emulator on a 128mb ram Xbox is the vanilla version which has longer recovery time when you crash. Running Outrun 2006 Coast to Coast is the better option and doesn’t require a 128mb Xbox. I didn’t document the steps but the wheel I used was a Logitech Xbox Nascar Racing Wheel. The potentiometer to use is a 10 KOhm Linear Taper Rotary Pot instead of the sega one. Took apart the Logitech and removed the board and wired it straight to the Naomi Upright wires.
