FS NEC XM/XP29 monitors (not mine)

For Sale
thanks for posting..this is why we need LG and their OLED TV.. me personally, I would rather spend an few more Benjamins on a 55" LG OLED TV..but that is just me:)

Haha yeah ridiculous the prices these things sell for...

Pascal got very lucky, even though we lost our sence of smell temporarily ;)

dude posted this here: SELLING: NEC XP29 Plus (same as XM29 Plus but better)

(after your link to his FB post)

If I had a chance to buy one of these cheap I would but there's no way I'd spend more than $100-$200 on one. I personally don't like the way these NEC units look. the shadow mask makes it look more like a PC montor than a proper Arcade monitor.

If your face is going to be close to the monitor, an arcade monitor looks better on the eyes but if you are seating 4 feet away in a confi couch, NEC all day baby, clear, sharp and crisp with delicious colors:)

I always wondered what makes these monitors more desirable than regular RGB SCART TV sets (B&O, Hi-Blacks, etc...) these sell for around 50€ and look way better.

Yeah same here, I think $250 would be top of the line for me. I got a PVM-3230 for less than that.

In the U.S. We do not have Scart ready TV, that is a big factor:(

Just do what Twisted recommended - setup alerts on your local Craiglist..etc.. You will eventually score from someone that does not know about RGB and retrogaming.. People that know about RGB will charge an arm and a leg.

I disagree, the colors are good but the images is not what I'd call sharp or crisp. the shadow mask basically forces the colors to be mis-aigned which in-turn causes a general fuzzyness to the image. I'd take a Trinitron all day every day over an NEC because of it's use of an aperture grill. I've seen enough of them side by side to not bother looking too hard for an NEC.

Watch this starting at the 19:32 mark to get an idea what I'm talking about

In the USA they're "popular" because there is no RGB SCART TVs available. I guess they are "professional grade" displays so they tend to be built really well and usually have better than consumer quality picture and are highly configurable ... But I would think with a wide variety of RGB SCART CRTs available they wouldn't be as sought after. I think a lot of it is retro gamers in Europe see and read a lot of USA people going crazy over PVMs and other Professional models because they're our ONLY RGB option, and don't realize that they have a lot of much cheaper alternatives available to them.

Consumer trinitrons are definitely very good, but coming from Europe there are NO CRT's which do 480p and higher, except this NEC and BVM A and D series (as far as I'm aware).

So as a main display I will remain using my XM29 until I find a BVM-D32...

There are "plenty" of 480p CRTs (over component)

And check this out --> KV-40XBR800 ;)

Aren't these the type of HD-CRT's which upscale/linedouble 240p to 480p?
Resulting in lag and no scanlines?

If you're going for wide support then chances are the image is going to suffer in one way or another. I've never been completely satisfied with 15kHz content on any tri-sync displays. to my eye JAMMA games on my WG k7000 always look better than my Nanao MS2931.

By the same token I find most 480P content, as long as it's scaled properly, tends to look better on newer display technologies. So the only real advantage to 480P CRT IMO is lag reduction and a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Of course if space is limited you don't exactly have the luxury of a different display for every resolution :)

I find it funnier that he bought those in a lot. Prolly paid peanuts but wants gold for them. Silly people.

Well, the MS2932 is 31khz only, so no wonder they look better on the WG ;)
