Hey there!
I hope this is the right sub-forum,
I'm new to all things arcade (they know my wallet too well though, played it non-stop when I was young) and for now I'm playing with a supergun and a DIY hitbox I've made with 24mm buttons,
I've been thinking how can I make it easier to use and protect it at the same time, the supergun and the PSU, as I have 2 youngsters at home and I'm always afraid they get hurt or break something but I'm a bit lost on ideas on how to do it, DIY style.
I'm using a cheap supergun from uncle ali next door and an old ATX PSU (not modular),
I'll be more than happy to see some of your ideas
Thank you!

Buy this SG with cover and the PSU cover.

If you want to stick with your own setup (note that some Ali Express SG have bad voltages), look into a 3D printed enclosure or just buy a box you can put everything in and run out the JAMMA harness, RGB cable, and PSU cord.

If you post a picture of your setup it could help us help you better!

Welcome!

Thank you so much!
How can I check if the voltages are right on my SG? I've measured the 5v, 12v and -5v with a multimeter and it all seemed right, I did that before connecting my boards, afraid of frying something. Anything else I can do?
I will post a picture as soon as possible. :)

Where are you measuring the power from/at?

I don't use cheaper SGs, but I've heard some horror stories on quality of parts and how they output video. The problem is it could even be working fine one day and cause issues another. The bottom line is, if your PCBs are inexpensive, feel free to use a cheap $50 SG, but as your PCB collection gets bigger and more expensive, it's obvious to spend $150 on one of the best SGs.

I mean, you wouldn't buy a Ferarri and put cheap tires and brakes on it right? Those will work initially, but could fail you at a critical moment in the future!

The HAS SuperGun will show you a readout of the 5V line when switched on. You want to use the adjustment dial on the PSU to dial that voltage as close to 5.0V as possible. You can also get a pass-through Voltmeter like this:

Measure and readjust the voltage with the board connected, since the load on the PSU will vary with the board you have connected.
