So, one of my all time favourite sticks is the Seimitsu LS-22, as seen more or less unmodified in the Neo Geo AES and NeoCD sticks. Through the miracle of modern technology (3D printing) I made an adaptor plate to mount the LS-22 in my Hori Fighting Stick Alpha.

Modern Seimitsu sticks use the same mounting pattern, a 40mm square, as the Neo Geo stick, so you can almost swap them straight over - the Neo stick uses a rectangle base, the modern sticks are square. But that's it.

The only other concern is that the Neo stick is... possibly, maybe, a teeny bit short.

I whipped up a new plate to mount this, using an offset design instead of a flat plate, and it solved the height problem... Mostly. It's still very short, and using the NeoCD teardrop knob is pretty much mandatory. You might get away with a smaller 25 or 20mm knob, but otherwise adult fingers will feel very cramped between knob and washer.

But gosh. The LS-22 is a wonderful stick. And it turns out you can use the modern Seimitsu -01 switch assembly from their 40mm sticks (LS-55, SELS-70X etc) on the Neo stick too - but you need a new retaining plate to attach it. I'll probably build one of those next.

Nice mod there. Does the knob screw off? I’m guessing you are meant to use it underhand with the palm up with the shaft between the ring and middle finger.

Yeah the knob is removable. I've never used it as you describe, but for sure it's possible. It's designed this way because anyone who isn't holding it from the top like a pencil probably has a finger under the knob, and when it's that close to the top of the base, there's no way to do it comfortably.
