I am trying to get my Type 3 Chihiro setup for netbooting and having an issue. I purchased a null pic from Mitsurugi-W @for Chihiro net booting and using it at this point - also net booting with a Raspberry Pi that I have used for some time and works well. The games seem to boot fine and everything seems "ok", but at almost the same point for any game - it will reset and give an Error 33 (Gateway not found). In doing some research, it was suggested to be a pic issue, but not sure what to try next as I believe I have the correct one for this. It seems to loose the network connection, even though the game is already loaded and it shouldn't need to be connected to the Pi at all. Is it possible I just got a bad pic and has anyone else experience this? I also want to update the firmware to the Darksoft firmware for SSD/CF loading and I am unable to do it as it attempts to load the firmware via the Pi, but will not maintain the connection and eventually get the same Error 33. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

was the pic you bought specific to the Type 3 Chihiro and netbooting? or was this a NAOMI pic that you installed on your Chihiro?

Do you still have a battery in the dimm of your chihiro? How is it connected? Just a network cable between the pi and the chihiro dimm board?

Maybe you could try to netboot a game with a pc using the python triforcetools.py program.

If that still gives you the same problem you at least know it's not your pi setup.

Yes - it was specific for the Type 3 Chihiro and not the same one I used for the Naomi.

I will have to check on the dimm battery of the chihiro - I am not sure, but I assume it does. If the battery is bad, is it best to replace it or simply leave it out?
I can try the python triforcetools program and I might even try the Type I chihiro that I have around as I had previously used it with the pi setup before getting the Type 3 and it worked great.
Thanks for the input!

Type 1 and type 3 behave different on some occasions. It's for instance possible to re download an image on a Type 1.
On a type 3, once the game is started, it ignores the network command to restart.

With a good battery, once a game is loaded into the netdimm, it should restart that game after a power cycle without the need to upload it again.

Without a good battery, it will show an error message when the dimm memory contents are corrupt. It depends upon the firmware version what message you will see.

If your battery is bad, I would at least disconnect it. Maybe you could borrow the battery of your type 1 for testing. (They are identical)

When people have your kind of issues, it's always with a raspberry. Maybe it's just coincidence and there are simply more people using a raspberry for netboot.

The capacitors surrounding the cpu on the main board can dry out and become bad. In such case, the unit might reset occasionally due to it.

To test this, you could use the bottom case of your chihiro 1 and the top (dimm board) case of your chihiro 3. Doing this you are able to identify which of the 2 is causing the issues.

it's funny because when I you suggested trying to test with transfergame.exe my first thought was "every time someone has a problem net-booting I always see someone suggest using that instead of a pi and I've never once seen it actually solve the issue".

Not saying it hasn't happened, but I can't think I've a single instance I've seen where that was the case.

Even worse, I can't think of a single instance that offered a solution.

When I had a netboot pic that wasn't model 3 compatible, it behaved identical to having no pic installed at all.
(As the pic oscillator simply didn't work when it was set to the wrong mode)

There is a query command to verify the pic isn't removed during gameplay. That seems to reset the system when it times out.
It's the timer that can be reset on naomi to use the netdimm without a pic if you keep the system connected.
That doesn't work for the chihiro model 3. (resetting that timer)

Hey @arcadeWC - I had this exact same issue.... and it was because the region of my Chihiro was different from the image I was using. Once I set the region on my Chihiro to EXP (my image was the EXP image) - it all worked fine.

I also had it addressed over to a 10.x.x.x scheme - but try ensuring that the region is set up to match, and see if that fixes the issue.
