Current version: rc1 (October 6, 2026)

Night Warriors left a lot of Vampire Hunter behind. Every export version skips the epilogue that follows each ending. The endings were rewritten, with different page counts on most routes. And each fighter gets a handful of fixed win quotes, where the Japanese game picks from a much larger pool.

This is the Japanese Vampire Hunter in English, presented as Night Warriors, with all of it back.

What's in it

  • Epilogues: all 14 epilogues after the endings, in English. Every export version skipped them.
  • Endings: the 112 Japanese ending pages in English, with the Japanese scenes and pacing.
  • Win quotes: the full pool of 323 Japanese win quotes in English, picked the way the Japanese game picks them.
  • Victory poses and sounds: Sasquatch's Japanese victory poses and their sounds are back, along with Morrigan's and Donovan's extra win sounds.
  • The Night Warriors title, the Western character names, and the English operator menu with the USA settings.

New in rc1

First public release.

Getting it running

  • You need your own Vampire Hunter: Darkstalkers' Revenge (Japan 950316) set, vhuntj, merged, split or non-merged, as a .zip, a .7z or a folder. No game data is hosted.
  • The IPS kit patches it into the English restoration. It runs in MAME and HBMAME and on MiSTer.
  • On MiSTer, the MRA kit adds it under _Arcade/_Arcade Patches/_Restorations.
  • MAME reports checksum warnings for the patched files. That's expected, and the game plays normally. HBMAME with the nwarrru set definition loads it without them.
Full instructions are on the project page.
