I am going to buy a NVS-4000 psu for my New Astro City cab (want that stereo sound) and I was wondering if its compatible with Toaplan arcade boards.

I mostly only play Toaplan games from Flying Shark (飛翔鮫) to Batsugun so I don't want to even install the NVS-4000 if they won't work.

The reason why I think there might be an issue is because those boards require -5v and the PSU only outputs +3.3v +5v and +12v

Any help would be much appreciated! You guys have never failed me.

I have an NVS-4000 PSU in my New Astro City.

I don't think I have encountered a board in my personal Toaplan PCB collection that required -5v yet.
If you do need -5 volts there are Jamma addon boards or other solutions that can add -5v.

I have used one of these adapters on the NAC that has a NVS-4000 installed for a Midway board. It worked perfectly fine.

Something like this is what I use.

There is no problem with toaplan Boards. I think There is a list of games which need -5v mainly Atari stuff need it for sound.
be aware though that this psu will have no benefit in terms of sound and toaplan. And in my experience it’s not so easy to get mono from the nvs-4000

Thank you both for your help! So in the end it won't do much to have the PSU installed. Maybe it will make some of my Cave boards sound better I hope.

I am also replacing the stock speakers so hopefully that will have some impact on the sound.

So the best thing about installing an NVS-4000 series power supply into your NAC would be adding JVS power (3.3v volts) and a stereo amplifier mostly for JVS use.

If you wire the power supply up correctly you can swap between JAMMA Mono sound and RCA amplified stereo sound.
All you do is swap the yellow connector down by your power supply on the main harness.

Standard JAMMA PCB's use their own amplifiers on the PCB, so you do not get any benefit from the NVS 4000 for sound on normal JAMMA boards.

You may have to get creative to wire the unit in properly. After that you are good and if you ever need to run JVS system power, you just plug in a different power harness into your NVS-4000 power supply.

These also have secondary outputs for versus setups as they were used in the Versus and New Versus Cities.

yea he needs some special made cables as well. i removed the nvs 4000s off my cabs and use a dedicated sound amp for stereo and the psu for the mono.was much more easy for me.

@GeekMan1222 could you give more details on the way you were able to use mono with the nvs4000? just curious. thanks

I'll get a picture of it soon.

Basically the 4 pin yellow connector down at the bottom of the loom can set the speakers into separated stereo or pass through Mono. If I recall its only dependent on how the wiring is for those 4. The factory setting there's a little loop back wire and if I recall thats what makes the sound mono.

Its been a while since I needed to know any of this since I already got it done lol.
