Original Gradius IV pcb. The RTC has been replaced with a socketed F-RAM chip, so no more worrying about RTC errors. The PPC and both voodoo chips on the bottom board have been fitted with heatsink/fans and thermal adhesive. The case fan has also been cleaned. Works great.

Can you share the details mods, the Fram,Heatsinks/Fans you used. I need to do do these to my G4.

Sure. Basically I used a Raspberry Pi heatsink/fan for the PPC chip and 2x very flat heatsink/fans for the voodoo chips since they can't be very tall. All of them were put on using thermal adhesive. As for the FRAM, you need a 1608 FRAM 28 pin chip. Desolder the old RTC chip, put a socket in and place the FRAM chip in. The Gradius IV number will come up bad, you just let it go through the boot cycle and then reset it after it boots completely and it will be fine.

Edit: Don't put the Mame RTC file into the FRAM chip or you'll get a RTC Hardware error.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I have 2 or 3 of these with RTC Checksum errors, so will do the fram swap and install heatsinks/fans .
