My PGM arrived yesterday, and it worked right out of the box with a DOJ bootleg cart. I wanted to put it on free play, so I hit the test button on my Astro City. It went black instantly. Now I can't get DOJ to start at all. I tried reseating the cart and cleaning the pins, but still nothing. I had a feeling that wouldn't fix it, since it was working fine until I pressed the test button. Now I know to use the dip switch on the motherboard, but I hope I didn't break anything. I was afraid I fried the motherboard or something, but it does boot when no cart is inserted. Unfortunately I don't have another cart to test this with. Thanks for your help.

Do you have another JAMMA board to try to make sure the issue is with the PGM & cart?

Any chance the Astro test button is stuck depressed?

I hooked my MiSTercade back up and that is working fine. It definitely doesn't feel like the test button is stuck. Not sure if the MiSTercade would even be affected by the cab's test button, though.

Sometimes you can get crap in the battery back sram that makes carts do stupid stuff. Remove the coin cell. Let it sit for a bit.. then try again. I have also seen faulty dip switches where they get stuck ON as well.. even after you move them to the off position. Other than that.. i'd try to get a second / spare PGM game cart and test your PGM with that.

Not to derail, but would this maybe explain why my pgm does weird stuff when i have dip 8 on (attempting to keep high scores on ddp)

Just tried taking the coin cell out for about 10 minutes. Still no luck. I guess I'll be on the lookout for another cart. I still can't believe I broke this thing after 5 minutes in my possession 😭

Yes. I have seen the cave carts do weird stuff if you have a battery onboard. I don't think i had dip 8 set on (but that might not make a differance) . But i was testing some carts and one had no sound and something else i don't remember. In the end i found out something in the sram left by the other cave carts was the cause. There is a dip to turn music and stuff on and off... not sure if that's related... but it was quite odd. The motherboard does NOT need the battery.. so i just leave it out.

I really doubt you broke the game. You must have inadvertently got a test or pause switch stuck on without realizing it. Double check the physical switches on the PGM board and supergun, and clear the ram if you can. Get another game to test with.
