Question about netbooting roms

I'm attempting to netboot on my Initial D cabinet for the first time. I'll be using a PC to load files.

I'm having trouble figuring out how to use the roms for this. In mame you usually just leave the rom files in their zipped folder. But when I look at tutorials of people netbooting I see them using .bin files.
Is there some way to convert the roms into .bin? Or is there some other method to this that I have overlooked? I'm usually pretty tech savvy but this one has me scratching my head.
My wife really wants to play Crazy Taxi, so I'm hoping I can netboot that.

Looking good. Is that a Crazy Taxi cab? If so you may want to get a CF kit if you plan to keep CT in there a majority of the time. That way it will autoload the game on the CF card and you won't have any wires poking out.
 
It's an Initial D cab. This was my first time trying this, so cables are all over still. I've got an extra laptop so will probably just use a crossover cable and set the laptop on top of the cab.
Thanks again man, I was pulling my hair out trying to find .bin files of the games.
