So I receive a Third Strike cart today that was slated for a battery swap. I always open up the cart to clean the contacts before testing it to make sure it is still alive and ultimately swapping the battery. To my dismay I found this when I opened the cart:
It appears that instead of using the further out hole for the battery when swapping it, which is what you need to do for axial batteries, the person that swapped this battery last tried to use the two original holes and snapped the lead on the battery. Then they did a hasty field dressing type repair and attempted to solder the lead directly to the battery resulting in that unsightly mess. So I thought it might be ok and holding on by a thread so I proceeded to clean the cart contacts and test the cart. I found that it was in fact dead. After applying light pressure to the battery my suspicions were confirmed:
So sadly the solder job was not strong enough to survive the vibrations of being transported in the mail. The cart was packed well so I place the blame squarely on whomever swapped this battery last. If you are not skilled and confident enough to swap your battery then please have a professional do it (like me). Also, please watch my battery swap video on Youtube. It is the most comprehensive video you will find on the subject.
